Pacquiao vs. Bradley Results: Controversial Decision Produced No Winners

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

Timothy Bradley won the fight, but based on public opinion he's still a loser. Pacquiao took the loss, and despite all the people that cried foul over the final scorecards, the fact is: Pacquiao didn't look great in this fight.

Four years ago Pacquiao would have knocked Bradley out, there is no question in my mind. For whatever reason, Pacquiao was unable to pressure Bradley throughout, and he wasn't as vicious as we've seen him in the past.

I think this is what led to the decision; speaking of which, I scored the fight as the judges did. I know, many of the over-the-top, priority-boggled "fans" will result to name-calling, baseless accusations and other things found in third-grade classrooms because of that statement, but it's my opinion.

It's an opinion I've supported more times than I can count in the last 48 hours, but if you need to see it in print, click here.

I haven't seen a decision bring this much ugliness out of people since LeBron James took his talents to South Beach. The funny thing is I didn't have a problem with that decision either. As you can imagine, likewise, I didn't win any popularity contests for that stance.

Not every fan that disagreed was abusive, but unfortunately a large number were.

I originally predicted that Bradley would win the fight by a split decision. I admit, the fight didn't exactly go as I'd predicted, but the scores were dead on, and the outcome was the same. Still, the pleasure of an accurate prediction escaped me.

Part of that is because the events I predicted didn't specifically come to pass. I left that fight feeling that Pacquiao was the better fighter, but he coasted, and it cost him the fight, in my eyes. The other part of it is the overwhelming public perception that Pacquiao won.

When you nail a prediction it's better when there is no doubt about the winner.

That obviously isn't the case here. That said, I will always stand on my opinion no matter how unpopular it is. Perception is always very important, and because most perceive this as another crooked boxing decision, the sport itself lost on June 9.

It doesn't matter if I or anyone else can support why we scored the fight for Bradley. My group is too outnumbered to sway public opinion. When such a high profile fight is not very exciting in regard to in-ring action and features no knockdowns but yet is embroiled in controversy, that is not a success.

It means people were not entertained, the winners victory is spoiled and the man that believes he won has nothing to show for it. Adding to that circle of losers is the crazy behavior from folks unable to control themselves and the overall bad taste left in the mouths of most in the boxing community.

Nothing good came to boxing from this fight—not for the fans or the fighters.
