El Salvador vs. Mexico: El Tri Will Extend Recent Hot Streak with Convincing Win
The Mexico national football team will be looking to continue their recent hot streak when they meet El Salvador in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Mexico started off its journey to qualify for the 2014 World Cup with a 3-1 win against Guyana on June 8. A two-goal, home-field triumph over one of the lesser teams in the region was hardly enough for El Tri, though.
El Salvador is likely to suffer the consequences of Mexico's less-than-satisfying win when the two teams meet. Mexico was handed a 2-1 loss the last time it visited Estadio Cuscatlan during the 2010 World Cup qualifying. The total opposite result was seen when Mexico notched a 5-0 pummeling over El Salvador in the 2011 Gold Cup.

El Tri has the advantage of momentum heading into this match, winning four in a row, including a 2-0 victory over Brazil.
Jose Manuel de la Torre will likely look to pour on the goals in this match, as he'll have Aldo de Nigris up front, with Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez in the 4-4-2 formation. The two sometimes have a problem working together in the box, but they are too much to handle when their chemistry is firing on all cylinders.
Look for de Nigris to work the ball into the box, take the attention off of Chicharito and find him for a close finish.
Much is made of the attacking tandem up front, but it has been Giovani Dos Santos who has had the biggest impact over the course of the last few matches. The goal he scored against Brazil was simply brilliant.
Dos Santos is one of the best when it comes to sparking a counterattack and keeping possession on the run. He'd be wise to work as the facilitator for the two up front, waiting till they make a quick cut to thread a through ball in. Few teams can rival the counterattacking ability of the three, so the Mexican strategy should be to take advantage of the relatively slow-footed El Salvador back line.
The defense has been fine for de la Torre's club, with the exception of Hector Moreno's own goal against Guyana. Severo Meza played extremely well against Brazil and was able to shut down Neymar.
El Salvador is the No. 55 team in the world, according to the FIFA World Rankings. With just one win in its last five matches, Ruben Israel's squad is going to have a hard time getting back on track in this one.
Mexico has a superior offense and defense. They are faster, more technically sound and a more complete team overall. El Salvador won't be looking for much more than a draw here—a dangerous strategy, as playing to not lose is never as effective as playing to win.
