Brock Lesnar and 10 MMA Comebacks We'd Actually Want to See
Who doesn't enjoy a good, old-fashioned comeback?
It's beyond entertaining.
And with former champions, former contenders and former MMA greats making up the list of current UFC retirees, how could you go wrong?
From lightweights to welterweights, middleweights to heavyweights, there are 10 immediate comeback candidates who can still make a respective divisional splash.
Here are the handful of names we'd love to see fight inside the Octagon once again.
Josh Barnett
1 of 10Dana White has reiterated over time that Josh Barnett will never fight in the UFC again.
But considering he currently resides in Strikeforce, which is under UFC control, you'd have to think it's still possible.
Barnett's reign as the UFC heavyweight champion back in 2002 may have been brief, due in part to failing numerous PED tests, but he'd be a relevant comeback fighter nonetheless.
He's well known, possesses some of the best all-around skills in the game and always puts on a good performance.
If White and Barnett can let bygones be bygones, a comeback in the coming year is inevitable.
Kenny Florian
2 of 10As soon as Kenny Florian retired from the UFC, fans started wondering if one of the most professional fighters around can ever make a comeback.
Now while Florian has taken on a full-time role as the UFC's color commentator for their FOX network events, his true talent resides inside the cage.
As arguably the best fighter ever to have never won a championship, Florian seems like the perfect candidate to make a worthwhile comeback.
But after struggling with recent back injuries over the past year or so, health is Florian's No. 1 priority.
It may not happen soon, but a comeback nonetheless is something fans truly want to be part of.
Paul Daley
3 of 10Paul Daley is still a worthy fighter, whether you like his brash personality or not.
His three-fight stint in the UFC was one of the shortest ever for a top title contender, completely due to his post-fight antics against Josh Koscheck at UFC 113.
Cheap shots just aren't allowed in MMA, let alone a professionally run promotion like the UFC.
However, considering Dana White often overlooks the past in order to give fans the most entertaining fights, "Semtex" could potentially make a comeback down the road.
A rematch with Koscheck, who recently lost to Johny Hendricks in a welterweight title eliminator, would surely manifest huge PPV ratings.
Not for nothing, but Daley has won six fights since his UFC departure in 2010, including two knockouts and one submission.
Nate Marquardt
4 of 10It's shocking that Nate Marquardt has yet to be invited back to the UFC.
After serving as one of the best middleweight contenders around during his UFC career, having lost to only Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen, Thales Leites and Yushin Okami over a six-year span, Marquardt should have never left.
But after failing to pass medical requirements before his last scheduled UFC bout, Marquardt was dished aside.
However, a quick victory in Strikeforce could make Dana White's decision to bring him back as easy as pie.
Healthy, he's still one of the better fighters around, whether in the middleweight or welterweight division.
Keith Jardine
5 of 10Keith Jardine's exit from the UFC was well-warranted.
Having lost four straight fights, albeit to Matt Hamill, Ryan Bader, Thiago Silva and Quinton Jackson, "The Dean of Mean" wasn't producing inside the Octagon.
However, Jardine is one of the most entertaining fighters around, which is a big reason why UFC fans loved watching him compete.
He's the sort of fighter that either knocks somebody out or gets knocked out himself.
That's why a comeback to the UFC would truly be something to see.
Brock Lesnar
6 of 10A Brock Lesnar comeback is looking more slim by the day.
Dana White is surely trying for it, but Lesnar's current situation isn't an easy one, more specifically his contractual involvement with WWE.
Also considering his health continues to be an ongoing process, a comeback within the next year seems unlikely.
Don't get me wrong, if Lesnar ever returned to the UFC heavyweight division, it would be beyond historic.
PPV buys would skyrocket, merchandise sales would explode and the UFC would build even more of an audience than it has today.
Like him or not, Lesnar is one of the most heralded fighters in UFC history.
BJ Penn
7 of 10Even though BJ Penn is set to make his comeback to the UFC against the promising Rory MacDonald at UFC 152 in September, he still makes this list.
Penn has always been one of the most beloved fighters in the sport, having either won or defended UFC gold on five different occasions.
It's been a long time since "The Prodigy" made his professional and UFC debut in the same night at UFC 31, so it'll be a true pleasure to see him step foot inside the Octagon once again.
Win or lose, one fight or 10, Penn's second UFC comeback is definitely something fans want to see, and will.
Tim Sylvia
8 of 10Tim Sylvia wants back in the UFC.
It's as simple as that.
And even though Dana White and Co. don't seem too thrilled about the idea, you can't bet against Sylvia's six victories over his last seven fights.
As a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, Sylvia's name possesses some meaning, not just the guy who received a limb-crunching armbar from Frank Mir at UFC 48.
The bottom line is that Sylvia could end up producing better ratings than most of the heavyweights in the UFC today.
Presuming he can still compete at a top level, which is a big if, an opportunity to comeback and prove his worth should be handed out.
Marcus Davis
9 of 10It's doesn't seem like it's been 18 months since Marcus Davis last stepped inside the Octagon.
Davis' last fight in the UFC may have ended the wrong way, via TKO loss to Jeremy Stephens at UFC 125, but "The Irish Hand Grenade" still has what it takes to compete in the crowded lightweight division.
He may be a little older, 38, than most guys on this list, but Davis has won three of his last four fights outside of the UFC, including a first-round submission.
The MMA veteran may have to win a few more significant fights before gaining some momentum, but how sweet would a UFC comeback be against, say, Sean Sherk?
Randy Couture
10 of 10Just because Randy Couture is a 48-year-old UFC Hall of Fame inductee turned Hollywood movie star doesn't mean fans don't want to see him fight one more time.
"The Natural" has made it clear in recent interviews that he has no plans of returning to the UFC, but more bizarre things have happened in the past.
It's possible that Couture still has enough left in the tank to compete at the highest level in MMA, even though he now spends most of his days doing stunt work alongside Sylvester Stallone.
How perfect would it be if the UFC could put together Couture's comeback and Fedor Emelianenko's debut simultaneously?
That's like killing two ferocious birds with one KO punch.
