Let's highlight one player, for each side, who will break out in today's Euro tilts.
Ashley Young, England
Young will provide a dangerous scoring punch in the center of England's attack.
Normally, Young would play on the wing. Roy Hodgson's choice to move him to the middle will increase his production.
He only has six goals in 21 career appearances for England's national squad, but Young has many positive attributes.
Crisp passing, sound decision-making and a deadly long shot make Young a viable option against any opposing defense.
France will give England problems in today's first clash. Young will be asked to swing things in his team's favor.
Fans want to watch Young. His open-field ability is outstanding, and could provide early fireworks.
Florent Malouda, France
Malouda has a 77-game international resume. He has scored nine goals during that span.
Playing as France's attacking midfielder comes with important responsibilities. He must create open space, dictate tempo and find Karim Benzema for open looks.
He must also complement France's defensive midfield and provide shape to its offensive attack.
Malouda's extensive experience will allow the Chelsea player to impact the game on both ends of the field. He has an extensive understanding of France's tactics and often uses that knowledge to gain an advantage.
He is a deadly combination of experience and talent.
Rasmus Elm, Sweden
Elm is going to turn a ton of heads as Sweden's main cog in the midfield.
He only has 24 career appearances, but Elm is a superb talent. Look for him to display those gifts very early against Ukraine.
Midfielders must be able to hold their own on both ends of the pitch. Elm focuses on the attacking side but he is a capable tackler with excellent field awareness.
While on the attack, Elm is a dangerous shooter but loves to set up an open teammate. He scored 10 goals in club play this year.
He seems to be scratching the surface of his immense ability at the perfect time. His ability to find Zlatan Ibrahimovic will go a long way toward a Swedish victory today.
Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine
This may seem like a bit of an easy one, but the veteran striker becomes more important with Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Andriy Voronin on the mend.
He has enjoyed a dynamite career on both the club, and international, level. For Ukraine's national squad, he has 46 goals in 108 career appearances.
He also has 200-plus goals at the club level since 1994.
Finding a more accomplished striker is tough. Shevchenko has had a remarkable run for a middle-of-the-road national team, but he makes them worth watching.
Shevchenko's last run at this level will be fun to watch. It will inspire Ukraine to play focused football, and he is still a threat to find the back of the net.
All eyes should be on Shevchecko the instant he touches the ball.
