Harry Redknapp Is Not the Best Fit for Tottenham

Ryan DayJun 7, 2018

When can Tottenham fans finally admit to themselves that this whole "Harry Redknapp experiment" is as doomed now as it was at the start?

I get it, Tottenham—your hopes were big when you nabbed the man who brought Championship side Portsmouth its long-awaited FA Cup. You wanted an answer to an Arsenal side who have always been your bigger, bullying neighbor, and you wanted it now

But since coming to Tottenham, Redknapp has done very little to prove he's a good fit for White Hart Lane. Join me as I present to you, of the nearly limitless proofs I could give you, the top five reasons Spurs need to give their current manager the boot.

The Constant Distractions

1 of 6

If it's not being courted by the FA for England's national team, it's a tax trial or complaints about entering the last year of his contract.

I, for one, could not stand the constant distractions a high-profile manager would bring to White Hart Lane.

We don't want a manager who's being considered by the FA for one of the most important managerial positions in world football, nor do we want someone who's getting roped into tax evasion trials.

I don't care if he was acquitted mere days after going to trial—Spurs fans just don't want it!

Players Developing? How About Players Staying?

2 of 6

Sure, much of the development of longtime youngsters Gareth Bale and Luka Modric can be attributed to Redknapp, but what good is that when they leave White Hart Lane?

According to ESPN, Bale is being tied to a move to Barcelona, and Modric is deciding his future after the Euro 2012 finals this summer.

What good is it to develop these players if they depart and only leave 10's of millions of Euros in their wake? If Redknapp were any good, he'd be able to convince these players to stay at Tottenham for less money.

It's called instilling loyalty, people!

Lack of Transfer Window Talent

3 of 6

Are you kidding me, Redknapp? In your nearly four years as manager of Tottenham, all you've been able to scrounge up in the summer transfer windows is talent like Emmanuel Adebayor, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Scott Parker and Brad Friedel?

Where's Wayne Rooney or Carlos Tevez? Where's the big-name stars that a club in London should be able to afford?

The abovementioned guys are good, but where is the world-class talent Spurs so desperately need? If this summer goes by and all we get is some centre-back from Belgium, I'm going to puke.

Still Can't Compete with the Big Boys

4 of 6

Since coming to White Hart Lane, Redknapp has finished in the top four just once.

Inexcusable, if you ask me.

I don't want to hear that Forbes listed Manchester United as the world's most valuable team and that Manchester City and Chelsea have two of the richest owners in professional sports—I want to hear championships!

The problem with Redknapp is that he's not inspirational enough and can't instill enough heart in his guys. White Hart Lane needs a manager who can take Under Armour's attitude and get his guys to protect this house!

The Numbers Don't Lie...

5 of 6

All those other reasons aside, the numbers won't lie, and Redknapp's overall record is the most damning critique anyone can bring against him.

Of 198 games in which Redknapp has been the manager, Tottenham has only won 98 of them—a pitiful and pathetic 49 percent win percentage.

What other manager could get away with winning less than half of their matches? Look at the stats, people! It's all in the stats!

Get Redknapp out, White Hart Lane. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, and everyone at White Hart Lane knows it.

...But I Do.

In case you can't tell, I'm joking in all of these slides.

Harry Redknapp is doing an absolutely fantastic job at managing a club that finished in 11th place the season before he took over.

Most people aren't very patient with their managers in any sports, whether it be football, baseball or hockey, but Redknapp has accomplished more at White Hart Lane than most other managers never even set eyes on.
