Toronto Blue Jays: 4 Bold Predictions for June

Cooper AllenJun 7, 2012

The Toronto Blue Jays were off to a slow start in June, but they have since won three in a row and are looking for a sweep of the Chicago White Sox.

At 30-26, Toronto currently sits just two games behind the AL East leading Baltimore Orioles. The division is very close right now as all five teams are within four games.

There is still a lot of baseball left to be played, but teams may start to gamble in order to get out in front of the division.

With several weeks still left in June, it seems fitting to make a few predictions for the rest of the month. Featured over the next few slides are four bold predictions for the Toronto Blue Jays in June.

Toronto at Boston Will Get Ugly

1 of 4

Anytime the Red Sox and the Blue Jays meet up, you know you are in for either a really entertaining or a really boring series.

In their most recent game, Toronto was able to pick up the 5-1 win, but it paid a price, losing designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion.

Encarnacion was hit on the hand by a pitch and did not return for his next at-bat. Just two batters prior, Yunel Escobar also was plunked.

After Drew Hutchison hit Kevin Youkilis later in the game, both benches were warned, and Youkilis had a few words for the Jays starter before making his way up the line.

Although nothing escalated, there is still some bad blood between the two rivals that could boil over in their meeting near the end of the month.

Colby Rasmus Will Go 5-for-5 Again

2 of 4

Center fielder Colby Rasmus has been swinging a hot bat as of late, hitting four home runs and boosting his average by 30 points over the last 10 games.

His best game came on Tuesday, where he went 5-for-5 against the Chicago White Sox with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored.

Rasmus is getting into a groove, and I would not be surprised if he has another game like this sometime within the next couple of weeks.

Brandon Morrow Will Throw a No-Hitter

3 of 4

Pitching second in the rotation behind Ricky Romero, starter Brandon Morrow is throwing some of the stuff Blue Jays fans haven't seen since Roy Halladay was dealt to the Philadelphia Phillies.

In 12 starts this season, Morrow has a record of 7-3 with an ERA of 2.90 and a WHIP under one. What is even more impressive is how he has been able to get deep into ballgames. He has already pitched 77.2 innings this season.

The 27-year-old has already tallied three complete-game shutouts this season, and it is only a matter of time before he holds a team hitless.

David Cooper Will Lead the Team in Home Runs

4 of 4

First baseman David Cooper has been an absolute stud since he joined the Toronto Blue Jays a couple of weeks ago. In just 11 games, he already has 15 hits, including two home runs, and six RBI.

With both home runs coming in June, Cooper trails Jose Bautista by just one homer for the month and could hit the most on the team if he is able to keep up the pace for the next few weeks.

He certainly has the power to do it, and it could come down to how soon Encarnacion returns to the lineup.
