Hulk to Chelsea: Blues Will Regret Overpaying for Expensive Forward
I've written before that Hulk would be an excellent addition to Chelsea's refurbished frontline, and I continue to think so.
But not at the price it will cost them.
Sure, the potential combination of Hulk and Eden Hazard manning the wings alongside striker Fernando Torres is surely a frightening thought for backlines all over the Premier League. But the sheer amount of dollars and cents put into that attacking trio won't make a lot of sense, quite frankly.

What if Hazard and Hulk adjust slowly to the improved play in the EPL? What if Hulk is simply overrated in the first place? What happens if Torres replicates his disappointing 2011-12 season, one that saw him net only 11 goals in 48 appearances for the Blues?
Suddenly, an enormous amount of money will look like an enormous waste. How patient will Chelsea fans be with these three if they don't set the Premier League on fire early on with their play?
I love the Hazard signing, so I won't question that. I think he'll be one of the most dynamic players in Europe for years to come. It may be a huge investment, but it will pay off huge dividends in the long run.
And while Torres may never deliver the torrid goal-scoring run he provided from 2007-10 with Liverpool, he can still finish with the best of them.
But how big will Hulk's impact really be?
Yes, he's a beast and is dangerous on the right wing, namely when he cuts in off his left foot and unleashes his truly powerful shot. But I don't think he is a great facilitating player and can get shot-heavy at times.
And it could cause some unrest in Chelsea's lineup, with plenty of players capable of attacking out wide but an absence of central attacking options. Perhaps the team could play Hazard centrally to keep Juan Mata attacking from the wide position.
Ultimately, adding a player with Hulk's creativity, strength and goal-scoring ability isn't going to hurt Chelsea. Any lineup issues they may encounter are more likely to be an issue of too much of a good thing more so than a deficiency of talent at any one position.
But adding a player like Hulk for £38 million seems more like a luxury than a need and could be an unnecessary investment of an area of Chelsea's team that would be just as well served with a moderate improvement as it will be with a lavish Hulk signing.
Hulk will make his impact felt, but he'll never be an elite Premier League forward.
He'll just be paid like one.
