MLB Draft 2012 Live Stream: Online Viewing Info and More for Day 3
All of the can't-miss studs may be off the board, but there is still plenty of reason to watch Day 3 of the MLB draft on Wednesday. Rounds 16 through 40 will be completed to end the draft and while many of those players will probably ultimately go by the wayside, there are tons of diamonds in the rough waiting to be unearthed.
It may sound cliche, but the third day of the draft is most definitely when teams truly build for the future and separate themselves from the pack. Any organization can hit on an early pick, but finding an All-Star-caliber player in the latter rounds takes a great deal of skill and luck.

Best Available Players to Watch
Freddy Avis
Ranked No. 70 on MLB.com's 2012 prospect watch list, pitcher Freddy Avis has shockingly not yet been selected in this year's draft. The 6'3" righty has committed to play at Stanford next season, so there may be a sentiment that he won't sign if he is selected from this point forward. Even so, Avis has a ton of talent and is worth gambling on.
He has a plus fastball that should get better over time and he has some solid breaking stuff as well. Avis is a youngster who obviously needs some time to develop, but the third day is such a crapshoot that some team is likely to take him and hope he signs.
Mitchell Traver
Like Avis, Mitchell Traver is listed on MLB.com's top-100 prospects chart at No. 89 and he is among the best players left on the board. Traver also has committed to a college as he is slated to go to Texas Christian University, but he may be more likely to sign with a team than Avis would, although he does seem to want to play at TCU.
Traver isn't as refined as Avis in that he is primarily a fastball pitcher with little else, but he gets good velocity and location with his heater. Traver is a bit of a risk at this point since his commitment to TCU is looming, but there comes a point when his value will be too great to ignore.
Ryan Garvey
The son of Los Angeles Dodgers great Steve Garvey, Ryan Garvey is unquestionably one of the most intriguing prospects left on the board. Garvey, who can play either corner infield position as well as the outfield, was drafted in the 15th round last year by the Philadelphia Phillies. Garvey didn't sign, though, so he could play at USC.
Garvey decided to leave USC, however, and attend junior college instead. Now, Garvey is back in the draft and is already guaranteed to be taken later than he was last season. There is still reason for Garvey to be optimistic, though, because he has good power potential and an excellent pedigree that teams will be drawn to.
