Fantasy Football 2012: Can Tim Tebow Be a Valuable Quarterback Option?

Tony SantorsaJun 7, 2018

Starting or not starting, Tim Tebow should be on any roster in any fantasy football league across the fantasy football world.

In someway, shape or form, I see the New York Jets using Tebow in their offense, and to be honest with you, he could be very effective.

According to an early May report on ProFootballTalk, Josh Alper reported that offensive coordinator Tony Sparano projected that Tebow will play from anywhere from "one to 20 snaps" a game. If that statements proves to stand accurate, then Tebow could be quite the flex option or even second quarterback if you play in a two-quarterback league.

It's still unclear to what Tebow's role currently stands as right now, as I believe that the Jets will wait and see how Tebow and starter Mark Sanchez perform in the preseason and then make a decision on everybody's role heading into 2012.

Which means that Tebow could be the starter—and I firmly believe that Tebow will be New York's starting quarterback at some point of time in the 2012 campaign.

Throughout OTAs, Sparano has been praising Tebow and has been impressed with his improved fundamentals—and this certainly makes up the predication that Tebow will be the starter at some point this season.

In all honesty, why would the Jets trade for Tebow if they didn't want him to be the starter? They very well knew that Tebow-mania would explode once it reached the Big Apple—and attention is something that the Jets aren't certainly lacking nowadays.

The Jets want Tebow to be the starter—I guarantee it.

Just take a look at what they have done with Sanchez this offseason: They handed him a three-year contract extension. But wait a second, this extension ultimately moves money around and freed up $6.4 million for the 2012 season.

All the ingredients are there for Tebow to be the starter of the Jets in 2012.

But starter or no starter, Tebow will see the field this season and could be quite the weapon in any fantasy league.

Keep in mind, Sparano is the man that brought the "Wildcat" to the NFL with the Miami Dolphins—and Tebow certainly appears to be the ideal guy for that kind of scheme, considering his success with the zone-read in Urban Meyer's offense at the University of Florida.

This past season with the Denver Broncos, Tebow definitely was productive as he scored a combined 18 touchdowns while turning the ball over 12 times. He accumulated 1,729 yards passing with 660 yards rushing. The numbers might not be great, but they're pretty useful for a league that carries a flex roster spot.

Unless Tebow isn't named the starter by the start of your respected fantasy draft, you should not be drafting him anywhere in the early rounds.

As of right now, Tebow slides in as a nice mid-to-late round selection and could be quite the fantasy player in 2012, if Sparano keeps to his word and allows him to see the playing field.
