Revis is widely considered to be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He had his best season in 2009, when he tallied six interceptions and 31 passes defended, helping the Jets finish the year as the top-ranked defense in the league.
Revis held out for a new contract after his breakout year in 2009, missing nearly all of New York’s training camp prior to the 2010 season. The contract negotiations between the Jets' front office and Revis’s representation were filmed and televised on HBO’s sixth season of Hard Knocks. The two sides settled on a four-year contract worth about $46 million in what ESPN New York's Rich Cimini said last month was considered a "Band-Aid contract that would last until the sides could find a long-term solution."
These negotiations were a source of aggravation for Rex Ryan and the Jets’ brass throughout the 2010 preseason, as Cimini reported during the dealings.
In Week 2 of 2010, Revis injured his hamstring, causing him to miss three games during the season. Despite his absence from the field, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive year.
In 2011, Revis posted four interceptions and 21 passes defended. He was selected to his fourth straight Pro Bowl and third straight All-Pro team.
