Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: More Like Newbraska Orleans!
Rise and shine, friends. Here's what's going down in the Big Ten today.
—Nebraska is poised to sign an agreement that takes its 2013 road game at Southern Miss to the nearby Superdome in New Orleans, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. USM fans aren't happy about the game being moved, but the Southern Miss athletic department's financial situation probably makes this more of a necessity than an option.
—Ohio State site Eleven Warriors continues its interview series with Chris Brown, author of the truly great The Essential Smart Football and writer of Smart Football. Here, Brown posits that Urban Meyer will probably be as run-heavy as he was at Florida (and probably more power-heavy, thanks to personnel), but that it'll still be undeniably a Meyer spread: quick throws, playmakers in space, misdirection and mismatches.
—The Dayton Daily News reports that Brady Hoke was speaking at a banquet in his hometown of Kettering, Ohio on Tuesday. There, Hoke reportedly drove the final nail in the coffin of the "Gentleman's Agreement," which was an unspoken (and pretty much unfollowed) pact to not recruit fellow Big Ten programs' commits before signing day.
Hoke also told a few zingers, which is to be expected at a banquet, and which makes me wonder if he should start moonlighting as a standup comedian named Brady Joke. You would watch. You might not laugh, but you would watch Brady Joke.
—Kirk Cousins tweeted that he's officially a member of the Washington Redskins after signing his rookie contract. So he's all yours, NFL!
Oh, and even money says that sometime in the next three years, the Redskin fanbase is going to misplace blame on why the offense isn't working well and will wonder if it's time to move RG3 to receiver so Cousins can play. It'll be a terrible idea, but it'll probably happen.
