NBA Lottery 2012: Scouting Best Options for Charlotte Bobcats' No. 2 Pick

Richard LangfordJun 2, 2018

The Charlotte Bobcats' decision on who to draft just got infinitely more complicated. They entered the 2012 lottery with the best chance to land the No. 1 pick. Had things played out like that, they would have had the opportunity to take the consensus No. 1 player in Anthony Davis.

Alas, the Bobcats fell to No. 2, and the only consensus at No. 2 is that there is no clear cut best option.

This choice is likely to come down to three players. Here is a look at those three players and how they would they fit.

Thomas Robinson, F, Kansas

Robinson doesn't have as high a ceiling as Anthony Davis, but he could give him a run for his money as rookie of the year. He is a polished player with a complete game.

He already has the size and strength to battle down low, and should be a quality rebounder from his first game who knows how to outlet the ball when he grabs it.

He also has solid post footwork and good touch.

Robinson will need to improve his free throw shooting, jump shot and defensive consistency to be an All-Star, but he should be a valuable piece right from the beginning.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky

Kidd-Gilchrist is an elite athlete and competitor. Michael Jordan might even see some shades of himself in this youngster.

He will need to work on his shooting if he wants to be elite, but if he can become a reliable jump shooter, the sky is the limit.

He is an aggressive slasher, solid rebounder and outstanding defender. This is not as safe a pick as Robinson, but his ceiling is through the roof.

Andre Drummond, C, Connecticut

This is easily the riskiest option, but the guy is a very athletic 6'11" and 275 pounds. That is hard to pass on.

He could end up being just another big man bust that doesn't pan out, or he could be one of the best centers in the league.

Drummond will have to develop some post moves and touch. He also needs work on rebounding and defensive fundamentals.

If the Bobcats believe he is the kind of person that will put in the work to improve in these areas, they shouldn't hesitate to take him.
