Wrestlemania 25 No Where Near Sellout... WWE Continues To Feel the Pressure

AkDFeb 5, 2009

Before I start, do you see that Ric Flar picture? Do you remember how you felt that moment at Wrestlemania 24? Well forget it...it was all for nothing.

As you all know or not, Wrestlemania 25 tickets have been on sale for some time now. Hall of fame great Stone Cold Steve Austin, still draws a big crowd as the Hall of fame ceremony has sold loads to tickets. At this point the Hall of fame ceremony will surpass last year's, which isn't shocking to me and shouldn't be to you guys either.

Wrestlemania tickets on the other hand...not so much. Wrestlemania usually has big venues and can hold ten of thousands of people. According to the Wrestling Observer, tickets have been sold but are no where near a sellout. So what's going on?

I remember Wrestlemania 23 in Detroit, MI sold out almost as quick as Santino's 2009 Rumble elimination. Wrestlemania 24 sold quickly, too, I believe, so what's up with the 25th anniversary.

I thought about the state of our economy and pondered if that even plays a part. It probably could. Regardless of that, I still haven't been blown away with what's supposed to be the show of the decade. I think WWE is feeling pressure...and lots of it.

Mickey Rourke ans Chris Jericho was lackluster from the start, but they pursued it anyway. It fell through and you'd think they learn their lesson right? WWE haven't been puting as much thought into the decisions they've made recently.

I believe this is so because of:

1. Chris Jericho vs Mickey Rourke deal, and

2. the whole Orton ordeal. Orton is the hottest superstar so what am I talking about? Allow me to elaborate a bit further. Orton's hype has gotten out of hand and is transforming into the next Christian Cage hype machine. Shane/Legacy, Stephanie/Legacy, Orton/Vince, Orton/Austin, and so on.

It's alright to speculate people, we have freedom of speech, its our right. This makes Orton very crucial. He's a vital piece of the puzzle and WWE can't afford to take anymore blows. Batista's injury, Rourke/Jericho deal failing, and a certain no-show at the rumble were all pretty big blows.

We aren't exactly enlightened on Smackdown's input for Wrestlemania, but I can bank on Edge vs Triple H.

The only steam we have is JBL vs HBK, which is looking like the angle is dragged a little. I once believed that the story could make it to Wrestlemania 25, but its almost as stale an old oatmeal cookie. HBK is told to, "Do his job," and failed. JBL comes and downtalks him. He mentions his family and HBK has the puppy dog look on his face and doesn't kick his face in, instead he walks away.

The same happens every week. I doubt it can last much longer without people becoming annoyed. Given that belief, that is why I believe that HBK might face Taker at Wrestlemania 25.Taker on next week RAW might result in another confrontation between the two.

What other build up do we have? Chris Jericho and Ric Flair!? For goodness sake Flair...STAY HOME. His legacy was cemented with his classic match against HBK at Wrestlemania 24. Flair's return would make that match look like it was done for nothing. All that crying and hugging. Farewell party on RAW...just to come back.

This is a perfect example of why WWE doesn't think anything all the way through. Ric Flair vs Jericho might not happen, but Flair showing up just about guarantees he'll play a part in the story. I don't want that, we don't want that, you shouldn't want, no one should.

We need an uprising, a revolt, a revolution. Jason, can I join your revolution?

Back to the point, I don't think the economy is having that huge of an impact on Wrestlemania ticket sales because:

1. Any die hard fan will find a way to get that cash, and there are many.

2.The Hall of fame tickets are almost all sold out. The HOF tickets may not be as expensive as Wrestlemania's but it should be pretty darn close.

In my eyes, WWE continues to make mistakes because they feel a massive amount of pressure, in which the source is..unknown to me.

It might be natural pressure because its the 25th anniversary and people are expecting a big..big show, and I'm not talking about the superstar. I will look into this more as the window or opportunity is still open for WWE. The No Way out fallout should give as a clearer perspective.
