Breaking Down How WWE Has Dropped the Ball with John Cena's Character
With John Cena’s loss at the Over the Limit Pay-Per-View, the WWE has made it clear that the Super-Cena character is not alive anymore.
As true as that may be, the WWE still dropped the ball in terms of maximizing the rebirth that Cena is going through. The fans have grown tired of Cena’s current character, and the changes people see are coming across well, but it’s not enough.
Let’s not forget there were heavy Cena chants during Big Show’s promo on Monday—something that hasn’t been seen in the WWE Universe in a long time.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
While there is still serious momentum being built by the company’s biggest star, it could have been so much bigger if they had played this scenario differently.
Overcoming Real Adversity
While the WWE never wants to put over stars from other companies, the Extreme Rules PPV should have been the second part in the rebuilding process of Cena’s character.
After losing to The Rock at WrestleMania 28, another huge loss to Brock Lesnar would have broken down any doubt that Cena was still unable to come up short.
With two heartbreaking losses and the People-Power regime attacking him, Cena could be once again the face that triumphs over adversity using only hustle, loyalty and respect. That would have been a fresh take on the same-old Cena game.
Instead, we get John Laurinaitis winning his match against Cena with the Big Show’s help.
Not only does it make Lesnar look weaker than he already did, WWE reinforced that it takes two men to beat Cena. Looks like we’re back to Super Cena again…
No Rest for the Weary
You don’t realize how much you love something until it’s not there anymore, and the same can be said for John Cena.
There is no doubt that Cena is a fan favorite and arguably one of the most polarizing figures in sports, but the WWE Universe and beyond has been saturated with Cena for too long.
The fans need him to go away for a while.
With the loss to The Rock and what should have been a loss to Brock Lesnar, the WWE could have easily written Cena off with an injury angle and gotten him off television for a few weeks.
Fans again would begin to wonder where Cena went and start to miss their favorite wrestler. If the fans miss their star, the demand will grow for the brand he brings and the excitement levels would skyrocket.
Cena’s personal troubles may be causing more stress than he needs as well, and a few weeks away from the ring would help him straighten that all out. The WWE should give this man a break on the simple fact that he has carried the company for years without a complaint or vacation.
It’s obvious that the WWE has mishandled this situation, but they must realize there error before hurting the face of their company further. At this point, the WWE is doing more damage than good.
