Anthony Davis: Best Landing Spots for High-Flying Forward
Michael Jordan’s killer instinct lives.
Nowadays, instead of thrusting a dagger into the heart of his opponents, MJ destroys the very prospects that he drafts. But in all seriousness, while the Charlotte Bobcats need Anthony Davis, they aren’t the best landing spot for him.
Here are the NBA lottery teams that would provide Davis with the best chance to succeed.
Odds to Land No. 1 Pick: 1.7 percent
Considering that the Chicago Bulls landed the first overall pick in 2008 with the exact same odds as the Pistons, Detroit wouldn’t be foolish to hope that they land Davis.
While they haven’t made the playoffs in a few of years, Detroit has a semi-recent history of winning. Derrick Rose led to Bulls to championship contention after they hit the jackpot. Davis is capable of having the same effect on the Pistons.
He and Greg Monroe would form one of the most dominant big-men duos in the league for years to come.
Odds to Land No. 1 Pick: 4.3 percent
Chicago landing the first overall pick wasn’t a fluke. Since 2005, only one team with top-four odds won the lottery.
If the Warriors were to get lucky, their reputation as a team that couldn’t care less about the defense would be repaired.
Golden State has a promising core with Stephen Curry, Andrew Bogut and Klay Thompson. With Davis in the fold, they'd be able to trade David Lee for an upgrade at small forward which would make them a playoff contender.
Odds to Land No. 1 Pick: 6.3 percent
Portland may or may not be cursed, but as long as Davis stays healthy, he’d thrive there. Next to LaMarcus Aldridge, they’d flat out own opposing teams in the paint.
With a second lottery pick as well, Portland will be in position to selection Damian Lillard or Kendall Marshall to fill their hole at point guard. That’d give the Trail Blazers an impressive core to move forward with and they’d be well on their way to being a playoff contender yet again.
