Joe Torre Should Still Have His Day in the New Ballpark
Joe Torre did not cheat the game. All he did was tell his side of the story. He wrote a book about the good and bad times he encountered while he was the manager of the Yankees. There is nothing wrong with that, considering he didnโt say anything really offensive.
"And here is Jeter talking in โThe Yankee Years,โ:
โYou know, we made it look easy. We knew it wasnโt easy, but we made it look easy. And people automatically assume, "Well, your payroll is this, and youโve got this player and that player and this All-Star, that All-Starโฆ you should win." No, it just doesnโt happen like that. You have to have a lot of things go right. We were in six World Series. Itโs not easy, you know what I mean? Nowadays? Six World Series in 12 years? Thatโs tough to do, man.โ
They did make it look easy. The manager made it look easier than all of them, talking about it before the game, talking about it after the game, classing up the Yankees again. Give Joe Torre a day? Are you kidding? The Yankees could give him a week.
"
Nobody gives Torre the credit he deserves for whatย the Yanksโย did in the 1990s. He was a big part of it. Joe Torre is part of the Yankees' great history, and to leave him out of it all would be a great mistake.
Joe Torre made mistakes as manager of the Yankees. He wasnโt perfect. Nobody is. He did a damn good job though.
He never missed the postseason in his twelve-year tenure as manager of the Yankees. Not only that but he helped deliver four World Series championships. That says it all right there.
You donโt have to like Torre or his book in order to admit that he deserves his day. I would have to say that when the going was good, most of you fans who are against Joe now were all fans of him when they were winning all those rings.
This book should change nothing about Joe Torreโs legacy. The only legacy this man leaves in my mind is winning.
Donโt forget that Joe Torre will be on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight..
