UFC 146 Results: Cain Velasquez and the Most Impressive Winners on the Card

Andrew KulhaJun 3, 2018

The main highlight coming out of UFC 146 was Junior dos Santos defending his UFC heavyweight title by knocking out challenger Frank Mir in the second round.

But let's not forget how great Cain Velasquez looked.

Great is somewhat of an understatement, to be frank. Velasquez looked downright scary.

While giving the man who took his title, dos Santos, all the headlines and credit he deserves, we need to take a moment to recognize the utter destruction that Velasquez put Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva through.

He wasn't the only impressive winner on the card last night, though. Here's the power rankings of the four most impressive fighters at UFC 146:

4. Roy Nelson

"Big Country" Roy Nelson came out and gave the fans what they wanted: entertainment and a knockout punch. I'm not sure what was more impressive—Nelson's beard or his confidence within the Octagon. But, either way, he took care of business and cruised to an easy win.

His opponent, Dave Herman, was taller and appeared to be in better shape, but Nelson proved once again that looks can be deceiving, knocking out Herman 51 seconds into the first round.

Nelson looked great, and he was fun to watch.

3. Glover Teixeira

Teixeira wasn't on the main card, but he was easily the most impressive fighter in the prelims. This was his highly anticipated UFC debut, so it would have been understandable if he was a bit off.

Still, he looked incredibly comfortable and confident within the Octagon.

He ended up submitting Kyle Kingsbury with a nice arm triangle that had his opponent gasping for air.

It was a fitting finish; Teixeira dominated the bout, and he looks like he has what it takes to make a splash in the UFC.

1B. Junior dos Santos

I have nothing bad to say about dos Santos, and if it weren't for the incredible beat down and show Velasquez put on the fight before, JDS's performance would have easily been the most impressive at UFC 146.

To be fair, we can make it 1A and 1B.

He was dominant against Mir and defended his title gracefully. His boxing was superior, his take down defense was flawless and, in the end, his game plan was the winning one.

Right now, it would appear as if dos Santos is unbeatable in the heavyweight division, but I'd be on the lookout for this next guy to make another run at the belt.

1A. Cain Velasquez

Velasquez put on a show—there is no better way to describe it.

His opponent, "Bigfoot" Silva, was much bigger, but Cain used his speed, agility and aggressiveness to get Silva on his back. From there, it had to be a nightmare for Bigfoot.

Velasquez used his elbows to bloody up Silva's face, and the match actually had to be stopped to allow Silva to get the blood out of his eyes. It didn't matter, though, because once they started back up, Velasquez continued his assault on Silva's face, and that was all she wrote.

Velasquez looked scary and he looked determined. He literally beat up his opponent.

He was the most impressive fighter at UFC 146.
