UFC 146 Fight Card: JDS vs. Mir and Fights That Will End in Knockout

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Knockouts are the best.

Sure, sometimes knockouts don't necessarily represent the best fighting or wrestling, but they are easily one of the most exciting things that can happen inside the Octagon. And at UFC 146, you'll be treated to plenty of knockouts.

The main card is, after all, full of heavyweight bouts. What else would you expect from these behemoths?

Whether they come via one swift kick to the chin (OK, these big guys can't kick that high) or an array of devastating punches that leave the opposing fighter defenseless, one thing is sure.

They will be awesome.

So, let's take a look at what main card fights will end with one fighter standing over the other at UFC 146.

Junior dos Santos vs. Frank Mir

Why not start with the fight everyone can't wait to see?

As far as the potential for a knockout, it really just depends on who wins. Dos Santos is going to try and knock the pulp out of Mir while the American will try to submit dos Santos.

But let me put it this way. Dos Santos is not going to lose.

Mir is experienced, and he's confident he'll be able to submit the Brazilian, but dos Santos is simply too hard (read: impossible) to take down. And if dos Santos doesn't go down, by process of elimination, that means the fight will stay upright.

When that happens, dos Santos will knock out Mir like he has done in 10 of his 14 wins.

Roy Nelson vs. Dave Herman

These are some big boys, and more often than not, they enjoy punching their opponent more than anything else.

And if punching doesn't work, Dave Herman always has his incredibly powerful kicks. Kind of like these (prepare yourself for an amazing knockout):

Nelson secured Knockout of the Night back in March of 2010 while Herman was given Fight of the Night in his win over John-Olav Einemo last year.

So, more than anything else, you know these guys are going to put on a show.

In 16 wins, Nelson has secured nine knockouts. Herman, on the other hand, has secured a ridiculous 15 knockouts in his 21 wins.

I would be very surprised if someone didn't get knocked out in this one.

Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva

If this isn't the Fight of the Night, I'd be shocked. Shocked!

These guys are much more evenly matched than dos Santos and Mir, and more importantly, they will go after each other in relentless fashion.

In the 25 combined fights between these two, 19 have gone via knockout. And when they lose, they go down swinging, too. In their combined four losses, three have come by the knockout.

Both fighters have huge power behind their punches, and once one of them lets his guard down, the other is going to land a devastating blow.
