WWE over the Limit 2012: John Cena and Biggest Losers from PPV

Adam WellsJun 5, 2018

While Over The Limit did not appear to be one of the strongest WWE shows on paper, the event itself, highlighted by some spectacular matches, did not disappoint.

However, not everything worked out as well for all of the participants involved. In fact, there were a lot of people who came out of the event looking a lot worse than they did going in. Sometimes that's just how the story is supposed to play out; but then there are instances where a performer just doesn't look right.

Let's break down the action from Sunday night, specifically looking at the biggest losers from Over The Limit.

John Cena (Loss vs. John Laurinaitis)

Cena losing wasn't completely unexpected. Big Show's "firing" last Monday on Raw was the obvious setup that paid off exactly how everyone anticipated. However, the match itself was a disaster.

To be fair, there weren't exactly high expectations for a Cena-Laurinaitis match. Though, what we saw was terrible. I think the biggest problem is how long it went on. If it was just 5-7 minutes of Cena beating Laurinaitis, that would have been fine.

Instead, it just kept going on and on with no end in sight. This match made it obvious that Cena needs a new direction—specifically a new feud to actually get him interested in what he is doing. When he cares, he is great. When he is handed garbage, he tends to lose interest.

Chris Jericho (Loss vs. Sheamus in Fatal-Four World Title Match)

Jericho's return hasn't been the disaster that some might have you believe. Though, it is astounding that he has yet to record a win on pay-pay-view despite wrestling in five since returning.

Some might say wins and losses don't matter. But, there is still a large pocket of people who need to see someone win a big match before taking them seriously.

While it makes sense not to put the title on Jericho, but rather use his status to get others over, it would be nice to see him actually build some kind of momentum to at least make people think he is a threat to win something.

If Jericho is leaving soon, he picked a good pay-per-view match to go out on. Still, it would have been nice to see him win one of these big matches during his return.

The Miz (Loss vs. Brodus Clay)

It is becoming a broken record with Miz, but to see the way his stock has dropped in the company over the last 12 months is astounding. He went from being in the main event of WrestleMania last year as someone the company was going to build around, to jobbing on every show he is on.

The best thing you can say about Miz right now is, well, at least he is still appearing on pay-per-views. He isn't getting put in matches anyone cares about, or (in the case of this match with Clay) matches that actually get advertised for the show.

On the bright side, Miz won't have to worry about being buried on wrestling shows too much longer because he will be off to film The Marine 3
