WWE over the Limits 2012: Analyzing the Impact of John Laurinaitis' Victory

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

In one of the most boring and generally ridiculous matches at WWE Over the Limit 2012, John Laurinaitis kept his job by defeating 10-time champion John Cena.

It was basically a comedy match in the beginning, as Cena toyed with Laurinaitis by ringing the bell next to his ears, placing him into the announcer's chair with a headset, throwing him into a garbage can and pouring bottles of water on his head.

I was fine with all this, because frankly I can't stand Laurinaitis.

But things turned in predictably awful fashion as Laurinaitis limped into the crowd, only to be brought back into the ring by the recently fired Big Show.

The predictability continued as the Big Show smashed Cena with his massive fist, allowing Laurinaitis to get the easy pin and keep his job as general manager of SmackDown.

Overall, it was an anticlimactic finish to a surprisingly good pay-per-view event. It was more confusing than entertaining, and while it would have been decent in the middle of the card, its position as the main event completely deflated the energy that had been built up throughout the night.

Now, it's easy to see that Laurinaitis will keep his job and continue to be the unlikeable G.M. of the company, while Cena and Big Show will start a feud that may or may not resurrect the 7-footer's fading career.

We'll get some much needed answers on Monday's episode of Raw, but until then, we're left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Laurinaitis is still the general manager, Cena lost to a 46-year-old inactive wrestler, and a potentially great night for the WWE was turned into a poorly constructed circus act.
