WWE over the Limit 2012 Results: 7 New Rivalries We Could See Going Forward

Sharon GlencrossMay 20, 2012

One thing is for sure: WWE's Over the Limit was a lively, newsworthy pay-per-view that we'll be talking about for some time to come.

Filled with shocking swerves, thrilling in-ring action, comedy spots and gripping storyline development, it was a B show with some spark. The events of the PPV also threw up several possibilities for fresh new feuds and programs in the future, up and down the card.

With this in mind, here are seven new rivalries we can see going forward as we emerge from the show.

Layla vs. Eve

1 of 7

After successfully retaining her title against Beth Phoenix at the PPV, Divas champion Layla El now needs a fresh opponent—and who better than Eve Torres, currently serving as assistant to Raw and SD GM John Laurinaitis?

Indeed unlike the floundering Beth, who has been struggling to establish a firm spot for herself on WWE television in the face of fan indifference, Eve is a red-hot heat magnet capable of eliciting strong reactions from crowds wherever she goes.

The booking team appears to have caught on to the attention the former Diva Search winner is getting, and have made her a priority in the show. Certainly, such a battle, between the company's top female babyface and its top female heel, would help revive WWE's stagnant women's division.

Miz vs. Zack Ryder

2 of 7

Following Ryder's loss to Kane in a pre-show YouTube match and Miz's humiliating defeat at the hands of Brodus Clay in an unannounced bout on the card, both men come out of Over the Limit with their careers badly floundering.

In a bid to help revive their dwindling fortunes, maybe WWE's creative team should put them in a feud with each other? It would pass the time if nothing else, and both Miz and Ryder have the charisma and great mic skills to make any storyline involving them worth watching.

Cody Rhodes vs. Christian

3 of 7

On tonight's show, Christian shocked the world by making his long-awaited return to the ring and winning John Laurinaitis's pre-show "People Power" battle royale, before going on to take Cody Rhodes' beloved IC belt.

You see, per the stipulation of the battle royale, Christian was allowed a title match for either Santino's U.S. title or Cody's belt—after a heated backstage confrontation, he picked Cody.

Following the shocking result, the two men now seem to be headed for a long and grudge-fueled program on SmackDown, as Rhodes attempts to avenge his loss at Over the Limit and snatch back his belt.

What's more, long-time heel Christian is apparently a babyface now, which should make for an interesting change of pace, as the fans attempt to get behind a man they previously loathed.

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

4 of 7

The two babyfaces clashed violently in the run up to Over the Limit and, inevitably, at the event itself—where both men participated in the fatal four-way match (for Sheamus' WWE heavyweight championship).

Overcoming the odds, Sheamus managed to retain his title after pinning Chris Jericho with the White Noise, something Orton didn't look exactly ecstatic about after the scrap was over, shooting his former ally the evil look as he stood on the ramp celebrating with his belt.

One thing is for sure: Things between those two aren't settled by a long shot.

R-Truth and Kofi Kingson vs. Primo and Epico

5 of 7

At Over the Limit, R-Truth and Kofi Kingston successfully defended their WWE tag team championships against the the team of Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger in an extremely exciting match.

Their victory here could indicate that a programme and feud with former champions Primo and Epico (recently aligned with heel manager A.W in the storylines, and with with a new and improved attitude to boot) is next on the cards.

John Cena vs. the Big Show

6 of 7

The comedic Cena/Laurinaitis main event at Over the Limit came to a shocking and dramatic conclusion after The Big Show ran in and, after teasing that he would take out Laurinaitis in revenge for firing him on Monday, turned around and laid out Cena cold with a brutal punch. This allowed the GM to get the three count on Cena, meaning he now holds a pinfall victory over the biggest star in the company.

No doubt, come Raw tomorrow night, an enraged Cena will be gunning for revenge against the giant. These two look to be headed for a heated grudge feud that will dominate WWE's flagship show for some time to come.

Kane vs. Brodus Clay

7 of 7

After picking up a dominant victory over The Miz at Over the Limit, the dancing star must now be looking for fresh challengers on Raw. With this in mind, maybe he should feud with Kane for a while—it's not like "The Big Red Machine" is doing anything worthwhile these days, and a Clay/Kane feud could be a fresh and intriguing new feud.

Hey, if nothing else, at least Clay would probably be allowed to put up more of a fight than Zack Ryder was.
