Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea Score: Reds Who Came Up Small in Crushing Defeat
Bayern Munich failed to rise on Saturday.
In the 2012 UAFA Champions League Final, Chelsea knocked out the Reds in a penalty shootout. You can’t just blame a single player for the German’s collapse, but a handful of individuals should be pinpointed. Here are the Bayern Munich footballers that let their teammates down the most.
4. Manuel Neuer

Neuer had a somewhat boring outing, and he still managed to surrender more goals than Petr Cech. Chelsea took just nine shots in the match, and three were on goal. While he scored and made a save in the shootout, those positives fail to outweighed the Drogba ball that Neuer just couldn’t knock away.
3. Mario Gomez
Gomez started 54 total games this season and scored 48 goals. As Bayern Munich’s most talented scorer, he failed to live up to his reputation. He managed to record a shootout goal, but it wasn’t enough, not even close.
ESPN’s Ravi Ubha graded his outing saying:
"If only Gomez had finished his chances in the first half like he did in the penalty shootout: His well-struck penalty easily beat Cech. But Gomez shot over the bar when in a good spot in the first half and on two other occasions took an extra touch when it wasn't needed. It looked like Euro 2008 all over again.
"
2. Jerome Boateng
The 23-year old Boateng was sent back to school by the 34-year old Didier Drogba. The Red defender couldn't stop Drogba, who sent home the equalizer late in the match.
1. Arjen Robben
Out of Bayern Munich’s 43 shot attempts and seven on goal, Robben took 15 of them, and five were on goal. Despite taking more attempts than the entire Chelsea team—nine—he still failed to score a goal in the game.
