50 College Football Teams, Players and Coaches We Don't Believe in
When looking from coast to coast in college football, there are plenty of individuals that fans trust and believe in. From players, to coaches, to teams, past performance has allowed fans to buy into them and trust that they are going to make them proud.
On the other hand, fans have also learned what teams, players and coaches to not trust. Fans look and believe that they don't live up to the hype or have caused letdowns in the past, which has pertinently caused them to lose your trust.
Here is a look at 50 teams, players and coaches that you should steer clear of in 2012 and not punt any stock or belief in.
Michigan
1 of 50Last year was a great season for Michigan. It included a win over Ohio State and a BCS bowl victory. While the year went great, the Wolverines still haven't proved they are an elite team, and that will be exposed in the first week against Alabama.
Denard Robinson
2 of 50With Denard Robinson under center for Michigan, it has to take a trade-off. While on one hand, Robinson is extremely mobile and can make big plays, he lacks the arm to keep teams honest in the passing game.
Oklahoma
3 of 50Last year, Oklahoma came into the season with the No. 1 tag. This year, the expectations will be lower, but it is still not enough to believe that this team can return to the national title game. Both sides of the ball will be strong in 2012, but just not elite.
Landry Jones
4 of 50Last year, Landry Jones had to try and carry the offense on his own towards the end of the year and had some issues. In 2012, Jones is back for his senior season, and while he will have new talent around him, the senior quarterback may not see an improvement over last year.
Florida State
5 of 50Seems like every year, Florida State comes into the season with lofty expectations and finishes the season well short of them. With the trend continuing during this offseason, why should people believe in this year's hype?
Kansas State
6 of 50Last year, all the pieces fell into place for Kansas State and helped it deliver on a great season. While a young offense returns this year, the Big 12 got tougher with the addition of TCU and West Virginia, both of which will be huge roadblocks for the Wildcats.
Arkansas
7 of 50Last year, Arkansas suffered two losses, and both were on the road to the top teams in the nation, Alabama and LSU. While it gets both teams at home this year, there has been too much upheaval around the program for it to run the table in 2012.
Knile Davis
8 of 50In 2011, Knile Davis suffered a season-ending knee injury at the start of summer camp. Davis returns for the 2012 season, and while he should offer some needed balance to the Razorbacks offense, recovering from a knee injury that severe will cause him to take a step back this year.
Boise State
9 of 50Boise State is in the first season without Kellen Moore. Depending on what side of the fence you are on, this is a good or bad thing since the Broncos will struggle on the offensive side of the ball and will likely not be in the title hunt.
Stanford
10 of 50Much like Boise State, people see that Stanford has lost Andrew Luck, and the belief is that it will need to rebuild an offense that was centered around Luck's abilities. Regardless of who steps in, Stanford will not be heading back to the BCS in 2012.
David Shaw
11 of 50When David Shaw took over in 2011, he had Andrew Luck to lean on as a crutch during his first year as head coach. This year, Luck is gone, and people are going to see what Shaw can do as the head man.
Oklahoma State
12 of 50After last year's performance, the Cowboys are saying goodbye to both Justin Blackmon and Brandon Weeden. While they are not low on talent and depth, their is no reason to believe this team can come close to matching last year's success.
Virginia Tech
13 of 50Seems like every year, Virginia Tech is a team that will consistently have high hopes, lose an early game or two and then run the table at the end. While the Hokies continue to be competitive, they have yet to get back to an elite status.
Virginia Tech Playing Clemson
14 of 50Something to not believe in at all is the Hokies' ability to beat Clemson. Last year, the Tigers put down the hammer on the Hokies twice, including on the road at Blacksburg and in the ACC title game. This year, Clemson has the game at home and could likely repeat last year's performance.
The Texas Offense
15 of 50Since Colt McCoy went to the pros, the Texas offense has sputtered and hasn't hit its stride. With the rotation that has gone on at quarterback, don't look for things to get much better in 2012.
Notre Dame
16 of 50Much like Florida State, the belief around the Irish every year is that they are back. While Notre Dame certainly has the talent to do damage, they have a tough schedule this year and will likely miss out on the BCS once again.
Cal
17 of 50In a state like California, Cal has been able to pull some of the nation's best recruits, but have failed to capitalize on it during the fall. Jeff Tedford has kept them consistently average, but it is only a matter of time before that is unacceptable.
Brian Kelly
18 of 50Last season, Brian Kelly had some huge issues controlling his anger on the sideline. There were multiple times early in the year in which Kelly looked like he was going to explode. With high expectations that have yet to be met, there is no reason to buy into Kelly at this point.
Sammy Watkins
19 of 50Sammy Watkins had an unbelievable year in 2011 and is aiming at another strong season in 2012. Despite his on-the-field performance, Watkins is having some off-the-field issues that could be a distraction in 2012.
Randy Edsall
20 of 50After a great season at Connecticut, Randy Edsall bolted for Maryland and failed to deliver in a big way last year. Back in year two, things need to improve quickly, or Edsall may start to feel the heat.
Rutgers
21 of 50When Greg Schiano bolted Rutgers for Tampa Bay, he may have left the Scarlet Knights in a bad way. This year, the door is wide open in the Big East, but Rutgers may be out of it before things even get started.
Charlie Weis
22 of 50Since taking the head coaching spot at Notre Dame, Charlie Weis has given fans no reason to buy into his abilities at the college level. Now that he is taking over one of the worst teams in the nation, there is even less reasons to buy into Weis.
Kansas
23 of 50Kansas was flat out awful last year, and the defense was brutal. Even with the addition of Charlie Weis as their head coach, this team is years away from returning to the success they experienced just a few years ago.
The Big East
24 of 50In the past few years, West Virginia has kept the Big East as respectable as they could. Now that the Mountaineers have moved to the Big 12, the Big East is brutal, and the fact that they have an automatic BCS tie-in makes things worse.
Northwestern
25 of 50Every year, Northwestern goes into the season with the goal of winning a bowl game but for years, this goal has eluded it. With Dan Persa now gone, the Wildcats will struggle to even make a bowl game this year.
Indiana
26 of 50Much like Kansas, Indiana was really bad last year. The offense and defense both struggled to find any sort of success, and based on the returning players and depth chart, not much will change in 2012.
Washington's Defense
27 of 50If you missed the bowl game between Baylor and Washington last year, you're not the only ones, since both teams failed to have their defense show up. In 2012, the Washington offense will still pack a punch, but the lack of defensive depth will be the undoing of the Huskies this season.
Florida
28 of 50Since the departure of Tim Tebow, the Florida Gators have struggled to live up to previous success. Despite a strong defense heading into 2012, the offense will still be the downfall of this team when the fall rolls around.
Will Muschamp
29 of 50Will Muschamp saw an opportunity at Florida, and instead of sticking it out at Texas, he made the move to be the head man for the Gators. Last year, Muschamp struggled to get Florida back to elite status in the SEC, and the fans in Florida are not patient.
Ole Miss
30 of 50No matter who the head coach is down at Ole Miss, it has struggled mightily, and that trend looks to be continuing in 2012. On top of being in the SEC, Ole Miss has some holes on both sides of the ball that could lead to another bad season.
Dan Mullen
31 of 50Dan Mullen has done a nice job of improving things at Mississippi State and also taking control of the Egg Bowl. Despite the improvement, the Bulldogs are still a middle-of-the-pack team in conference and cannot seem to take a step forward.
Lane Kiffin
32 of 50While USC is a team that is loaded, it is hard to believe in Lane Kiffin. After bolting from Tennessee, Kiffin has turned himself into the villain no matter where he has been. With a job with the Trojans, you begin to wonder if USC wins in spite of Kiffin as the coach.
Marcus Lattimore
33 of 50For Marcus Lattimore, he has to deal with the same issue as Knile Davis, but with less recovery time. Lattimore had a sensational freshman season and was having a great sophomore season before a knee injury ended it. Coming back at full tilt this year may not be the reality for fans of the Gamecocks.
South Carolina
34 of 50Speaking of South Carolina, it is a team that always appears to be dangerous but cannot find a way to step to the front of the line. Teams like LSU, Alabama and Arkansas have a clear edge on it, and that will not change in 2012.
UCLA
35 of 50UCLA is another team that has some of the strongest recruiting advantages in the nation. It has history, weather and a beautiful campus and cannot seem to turn it into on-the-field success. Until they get things turned around, there is no reason to believe in the Bruins.
Jim Mora
36 of 50With no experience as a college coach, Jim More is taking over at UCLA and hopes to get the Bruins going in the right direction. While Mora has had some success in the NFL, we will have to wait and see what he can do in the college ranks before putting our belief in him.
Josh Huff
37 of 50After bursting into college football in 2010, Josh Huff has gone downhill. While his first season with the Ducks was great, last year was a disappointment, and with his off-the-field issues, this season appears to be heading down the same road.
Oregon Against USC
38 of 50Despite winning the past three conference titles, people are ready to hand the Pac-12 back to the Trojans. Last year, USC stunned everyone by beating the Ducks at Autzen Stadium and have the game at home this year. With the game being on the road, it will be tough sledding for the Ducks to win in Southern Cal, right?
Texas A&M with a Second Half Lead
39 of 50Last year is a season that anyone associated with the Aggies program would like to forget. Multiple times in 2011, the Aggies went to the half with a big lead and squandered it away. With a new look in 2012 and part of the SEC, the Aggies hope those issues do not follow them.
Todd Graham
40 of 50Four team in the past six seasons does not inspire a lot of confidence out of fans and players, but that is the boat that Todd Graham finds himself. After appearing to settle in at Pitt for a year, Graham quickly bolted after one year for Arizona State. Time to see how long he stays in the desert.
Rich Rodriguez
41 of 50After taking some time out of coaching, Rich Rodriguez is taking over at Arizona. His last stop was at Michigan, and it was a complete disaster, so the confidence meter is not high for people looking at his new position.
Baylor
42 of 50Last year was great for Baylor fans, as Robert Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy and it had a great season. The bad news is that Griffin is now gone, and despite some of the talent that has remained, the success will be nowhere near what it accomplished last year.
USC
43 of 50USC will perform on the field, where fans need to be cautious about buying into the program and thinking that the sanctions that they are currently dealing with will never happen again. When it comes to the Trojans, it feels like it is only a matter of time before they bend the rules again.
Chip Kelly
44 of 50Chip Kelly has proven himself over and over again on the field. The reason that you shouldn't believe in him is because he is bound to break the hearts of all Duck fans. With his innovative style and football knowledge, it is only a matter of time before Kelly does officially accept a job in the NFL.
Ohio State
45 of 50Ohio State falls into the same category as USC. While it is dealing with a postseason ban this year, the Buckeyes are bound to cross the line once again. With new coach Urban Meyer at the helm, things could be on a slippery slope if Ohio State got tagged as a repeat offender.
Any Team in the National Title Game Not from the SEC
46 of 50Like or hate the teams from the SEC, the fact is that they win and win the big one. The first time the SEC lost in the national title game was on a technicality because LSU lost to Alabama. If you are going head-to-head with a SEC team, good luck.
Tyrann Mathieu
47 of 50It is not the fact that Tyrann Mathieu is not extremely talented that lands him on this list, it is the fact that last year went so well for him that there is no way that he can repeat that kind of performance in 2012, right?
Urban Meyer
48 of 50While Urban Meyer has been successful at every stop that he has made, his healthy struggles left some questions for many fans. Despite retiring for the health reasons and family, Meyer has stepped right back into coaching for Ohio State. Makes you wonder if you can take him at his word?
Dabo Swinney
49 of 50Last year, the Clemson Tigers fired out of the gates white-hot and appeared to be blazing a trail to the national title. Late-season struggles kept them out and has fans wondering if Dabo Swinney is the guy that can take this team to the next level.
The BCS
50 of 50One thing that has remained constant throughout the year is the disdain that people have for the BCS system. While it appears that we are going towards a playoff system of some sort, the system as a whole still leaves everyone with a bad taste in their mouth.
