Manchester United Transfer News: Sir Alex Shouldn't Be Tempted to Outspend City

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United have won 12 Premier League titles, but that doesn't change the fact that losing to Manchester City this season hurt.

After City's first Premier League title, Ferguson has come out and said that he expects the Blues to go on a spending spree this summer.

Ferguson told MUTV, via ESPN: "We know City are going to spend fortunes, pay stupid money and silly salaries. We know that happens. We can't do anything about that."

But Ferguson also said that United won't cough up money just because City is. His blueprint throughout the years has been to accumulate players who fit the United model and figure to stay with the club. It has led to 12 Premier League titles.

Ferguson shouldn't give into the pressure that City has placed on United. He knows what he's doing, and his resume speaks for itself. There is sure to be pressure from fans and the media, but Ferguson must not change his ways. That would be shoving aside the very blueprint that has led to so much success.

One thing's for sure: City's title has established it as a force to be reckoned with right now. But that doesn't mean Ferguson should panic and simply react.

Fans should be applauding Ferguson's mentality right now. He's displaying the bullish, warrior's mentality that has led United to so much glory. He's had so much success with this mindset that whenever United doesn't win the title, people think something is horribly wrong at Old Trafford.

United is still a superpower, and the fact of the matter is, the Red Devils scored 89 points this season—well above third-place Arsenal.

There is no need to panic and overspend this summer. United will be just fine.
