Chelsea Transfer News: Dangling Fernando Torres for Radamel Falcao Is Right Move
Rumors that Chelsea was dangling Fernando Torres for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao have been quickly dismissed by interim manager Roberto Di Matteo, but he should reconsider.
Madrid TV station Telemadrid recently claimed that Chelsea offered Torres and £15 million for Falcao, according to Football Gossip.
Atletico Madrid's failure to qualify for next season's Champions League means that they must sell in order to keep their money straight. In that sense, it makes sense to move Falcao, who Atletico signed last summer for £32 million. Telemadrid claims that Atletico has put a £50 million price tag on the 26-year-old Colombian.

Torres, who starred for Atletico and Liverpool before joining Chelsea, has just seven goals in 44 career Premier League appearances with the Blues. This comes after scoring 65 goals in 102 appearances with Liverpool from 2007 to 2011. He scored a hat trick against QPR on April 29, showing the talent that brought him to Chelsea, but he's generally been inconsistent this season. It's safe to say he hasn't played up to his potential, with six goals in 30 Premier League appearances.
Falcao, on the other hand, has been sensational for Atletico. He's scored 24 goals in 34 La Liga appearances, including two of his club’s three goals when they defeated Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final last Wednesday.
These are simply rumors at this point, but it does make a lot of sense for both sides. Torres potentially could revitalize his career with Atletico, while Chelsea would land an excellent striker in Falcao.
Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League this season after finishing in the top four the last nine years. While Torres wasn't the only reason the Blues dipped, he did have a hand in it, and it may be time for Chelsea to seek a trade.
Di Matteo is turning his back on what would be a huge move for the Blues.
