New York Mets Will Host 2013 MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field
The 2013 MLB All-Star Game will reportedly be played at Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets.
Ken Belson, a reporter for The New York Times, got the information from a "person familiar with the decision." He said that the league would make an official announcement on Wednesday.
The only thing surprising about this announcement is that it came so late. Typically, the upcoming host city and site are announced further ahead of time. There is certainly a lot of planning and preparation that goes into hosting an event of this size.

However, the city is not going to have to start from zero with this announcement. Belson reported that his source said that "talks with the city have been going on for some time." The "some time" could be dating back years. The Mets opened Citi Field in 2009 and MLB loves to showcase its new stadiums by playing the "Midsummer Classic" there.
This move was destined to happen sooner rather than later.
The Mets have not hosted the All-Star game since 1964, which—not coincidentally—was the year that Shea Stadium opened.
The club has been embroiled in some serious financial problems and court battles, but Benson reported that, according to his source, these issues have not been a factor in this process.
