WWE Over the Limit 2012: Which Championships Should Change Hands at the PPV?
Over the Limit 2012 will feature four title defenses.
Crowning a new champion can be one of the most exhilarating elements of wrestling.
Eddie Guerrero's win over Brock Lesnar, Chris Benoit's title win at WrestleMania and Shawn Michaels fulfilling his boyhood dream were iconic and unforgettable moments.
Will we see anything similar to those at Over the Limit?
Which champions should retain and which should walk out of PNC Arena titleless?
Divas Championship
1 of 4It's hard for me to stay objective being such a Beth Phoenix fan.
Watching her lose the Divas title to a lowly Bella made me sick.
Being the clear cream of the crop, Phoenix, Natalya and Kharma should be the ones to hold the championship until further notice.
In terms of story though, it's too soon to take the belt off Layla. Having her win and then lose the title on consecutive pay-per-views cheapens an already cheapened championship.
Layla is inferior to the elite Divas, but could be a solid champ for the time being.
WWE should make Phoenix work to regain the title, which would be far more compelling than just letting her snatch it right back.
No Way Out or Money in the Bank would be better times for Phoenix to become Divas champ again.
Tag Team Championship
2 of 4The last few tag title changes haven't produced much of a spark.
The most likely scenario for Over the Limit is for R-Truth and Kofi Kingston to retain. They need to be built up as champs.
Dolph Ziggler is destined for main-event status and this trip to tag team territory is just temporary.
Supposing WWE did put the belts on Ziggler and Jack Swagger, they'd make great champions.
But Kingston and Truth haven't even started their title reign. They need more time.
They need to be pushed, given multiple defenses and plenty of promos to work with.
World Heavyweight Championship
3 of 4Some intriguing potential champions will be battling for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Randy Orton has already held it three times. WWE may be itching to put it back on him, but fans have seen that too much and too often.
Orton can excel without the gold.
Before Chris Jericho wraps up his latest WWE run, a World Heavyweight title run would be entertaining. He's proven how compelling a champion he can be.
Alberto Del Rio deserves a run at the title as well.
Though the challengers would all wear the belt well, having Sheamus lose it so soon would feel cheap.
Sheamus is too new of a champion to having his dethroning mean anything.
WWE Championship
4 of 4As much as Daniel Bryan fans want to see him hoist that gaudy championship above his head and scream, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" it's too early for him.
The Bryan vs. CM Punk feud has the potential to be the premier rivalry of the year. The two brilliant performers have evolved and grown over the last few years.
Putting the title on Bryan now without much of a hunt deflates his moment of triumph.
Waiting for their feud to grow—for Bryan to get closer and closer before finally winning it—is the best option.
SummerSlam would be a better time for Bryan to wear the WWE title.
I didn't begin this article intending to suggest that every champion retain at Over the Limit, but that seems to be the ideal plan.
Over the Limit is going to need to derive its drama from a different source.
