IPod App to Help Improve Every NBA Team
The NBA is a fast-paced game that is doing its best to keep up with the fast-paced world that it is a part of, and it's going about it in a good way, for the most part.
The league has adapted to the Internet age in terms of making video content readily available, along with widespread statistics and various information.
However, I think we can go deeper. We can get rid of some of the real work that teams need to do and give it to the computers. That's right, teams can download apps in order to improve themselves either from a mental, physical or financial standpoint.
So, as each team is looking to get better in each successive year, I've found the app that would help each team improve with a little work in the coming offseason.
Atlanta Hawks: Motivation to Your Mobile
1 of 30It seems that at times over the past few years the Atlanta Hawks have needed motivation any time they ended up producing anything worthwhile.
They have become stagnant being one of the good teams in the league, but not one of the great teams, and for that they're going to need some extra motivation.
So, why not a series of uplifting quotes to inspire them to go out there and give their all next season with Motivation to Your Mobile to get them feeling motivated?
Boston Celtics: Teamwork PM
2 of 30Who needs Ubuntu when you've got an app?
Ever since the Celtics core was broken up when Kendrick Perkins was shipped off to Oklahoma City, they have seemed like less of a team and more of a group of guys.
That's why they need something to keep them interconnected at all times, something to make them feel like more of a team, which is exactly what Teamwork PM is supposed to do.
Charlotte Bobcats: Air Todo
3 of 30The Charlotte Bobcats have a long way to go before they end up being any kind of threat to the rest of the NBA, which is why they could use some organizational apps right now.
Air Todo is one of the most funky-fresh organizational apps on the market right now and—okay, so it's just a bunch of checklists. You try to make a bunch of checklists sound cool.
The Bobcats are going to need to follow one of the few blazed trails if they want to build their team back up from scratch, and this app is one of the best for keeping tasks organized.
Chicago Bulls: Meditation Helper
4 of 30What the Chicago Bulls just went through over the past month of basketball had to be more than any basketball fan can endure.
They saw their star point guard go down with yet another injury near the end of the regular season, but nobody fretted. Derrick Rose was set to return for the playoffs, and he did, only to go down in Game 1, tearing his ACL.
The sheer amount of stress they must be going through has to be unrivaled by the rest of the league after going from the best regular-season team to getting eliminated from the first round of the playoffs just because of a flimsy knee.
Well, this meditation app will allow them to get their quiet time in every day, as it will remind them to meditate daily to keep that stress down.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Goal Tracker
5 of 30The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the throes of an epic rebuilding phase, and as it has entered phase two with the 2012 NBA draft approaching, they're going to need to set their goals for the next year quite soon.
Whether it's going to be for each player to make an improvement, for the team to make a run at the playoffs or just to play intense basketball, they're going to need something to keep track of their goals, so why not Goal Tracker?
Dallas Mavericks: FitnessTrack
6 of 30FitnessTrack is going to make sure that the guys on the Dallas Mavericks who will be returning next season don't end up all jiggly and out of shape once the start of next season rolls around.
As Dirk Nowitzki said early on in the season, the team looked slow and out of shape, and they never really became fast and in shape as the season went along, just slightly less slow.
So, getting each player this fitness app for their phone of choice would help them stay trim through the offseason, getting them starting on the right foot as next season starts.
Denver Nuggets: Instagram
7 of 30With JaVale McGee now a priority for the team in the offseason, the Nuggets can use some apps to help his tweet game to help lure him back to the Mile High this offseason.
McGee can post his goofy pictures and tweet more easily with the help of Instagram for his iPhone to get his pictures out to the world faster.
Hell, the rest of the team can tweet pictures of the team's crazy and exciting plays as the season starts up and the Nuggets come running out of the gate once again.
Detroit Pistons: Flashlight
8 of 30Really what the Detroit Pistons need to do is find a way out of the darkness that is the team they are putting on the floor these days.
The Pistons are egregiously straddling three eras, as they contain the members of their championship years, those of of their attempt to keep the ship afloat after their championship years and the members of what can officially be called their rebuilding years.
A little light shed on the situation never hurt anybody.
Golden State Warriors: Good Fortune Cookie
9 of 30Every team needs hope for the future, but at this point, few teams have as much riding on a pending season as the Golden State Warriors.
If Andrew Bogut can come out and play a full season for them next year, they could completely transform their team, but if he stays hobbled, they may have to embark on yet another rebuilding period.
In order to keep the team sane over the next few months, I suggest the Good Fortune Cookie app to keep their hopes up for their future.
Houston Rockets: Evernote
10 of 30Evernote is an app that allows you to keep all of your thoughts in one location, allowing them to float back and forth between your phone and your computer, allowing them to exist somewhere among the air kind of like Mike TV in Willy Wonka.
Why might the Houston Rockets find this useful you may ask? Well, this is so General Manager Daryl Morey can keep all of his thoughts straight going into this offseason in terms of how to create something from high-end mediocrity.
Indiana Pacers: Yammer
11 of 30What is Yammer, you may ask? Well, Yammer is an app that allows you to see what everybody in your company is working on at one time, giving you a nice, overarching picture of what's going on among your employees.
With this app, Indiana can continue to improve by constantly knowing what each player is working on, incorporating that into their own game and growing the Pacers as a team, something necessary to a team without a true superstar.
Los Angeles Clippers: Draw Something
12 of 30I've come up with a theory on what's going on over in Los Angeles in one of Vinny Del Negro's countless failed inbounds plays (as for his egregious time-out calling, I have no answer).
You see, Donald Sterling is going to such lengths to cut corners these days that VDR had to sell his clipboard and markers in order to do the team's laundry, so he has nothing to write plays on, he just gives his players the general idea of what he wants them to do, which usually leads to bad inbounds plays.
That's why VDR needs to download Draw Something on his iPad so he can use it as a board for diagramming plays during games. Problem solved.
Los Angeles Lakers: Mint.com
13 of 30If there's one team that is going to need help managing its money more than others moving forward, it's the Los Angeles Lakers.
Los Angeles is looking at being near the luxury tax line before having re-signed any of their current players or any newcomers for the offseason, which puts them in a precarious position.
Obviously the Lakers want to add pieces to help them improve, but they can't go around wasting money while their at it, so the Mint.com app will allow them to track their finances to the smallest dime.
Memphis Grizzlies: Anger Management
14 of 30The Memphis Grizzlies were just upset by the Los Angeles Clippers, both literally and figuratively.
One of Memphis' biggest problems during the series was the fact that they routinely got angry at all the calls the Clippers were getting, and while it didn't always lead to technical fouls, it greatly affected their game.
Instead of shouting about Blake Griffin flopping, the Grizzlies can download the Anger Management app (which is by far the most expensive app on this list, which would make me just that much angrier) and hope for serenity now.
Miami Heat: Jenga
15 of 30The Miami Heat have begun to do a good job balancing what each member of their team should do, but a Jenga app could help with that.
They can learn how to keep growing as a team, even though their pieces may not allow them to add any extra talent.
Plus, they can have some fun family moments sitting in a circle around a table, laughing at the guy who knocks over the stack of blocks.
Milwaukee Bucks: Lower-Body Fitness Coach
16 of 30The Milwaukee Bucks just lost a lot in the trade for Monta Ellis, even if they did gain a lot in return.
At this point, they are lacking the height and bulk that Andrew Bogut brought to the floor with him, and even though he wasn't on the court for most of the season, they still missed it when he left.
What needs to happen is the Bucks bigs need to thicken their bases with the Body Building Coach for Legs Hips & Glutes in order to keep leverage on taller guys and box out forcefully to get rebounds and they'll all but forget about Bogut's contributions.
Minnesota Timberwolves: Fruit Ninja
17 of 30The Minnesota Timberwolves are still a team that is growing into the role of a playoff contender, so they still have the occasional frustrating moment, even when at full force.
Once everybody heals up on the team and they come back together for the start of next season, they'll be a much better team than they were at the end of the year, but they won't be perfect.
Whenever there's a mishap that frustrates a player or just makes one of the coaches sigh, they can whip out their iPhone and slice up a few watermelons. That always distracts me from a fleeting little problem.
New Jersey Nets: NYC Map
18 of 30The New Jersey Nets (I suppose I should start calling them the Brooklyn Nets) are officially done in New Jersey and are making their way to the big city next season.
Now, they'll be the new kids in town, and even though they've been just over the border since the '70s, there might be a few things they don't know about New York.
So, they'll need a New York City map app (that's fun to say) in order to help them get around town and really work themselves into the local community.
New Orleans Hornets: CalmDown
19 of 30The New Orleans Hornets won just 21 games this season, the least in the Western Conference, and they haven't exactly become the picture of a perfect rebuilding scheme.
However, they need to use CalmDown to, well...calm down.
They'll have a full season of Eric Gordon to add to their team (presuming they're willing to pay him) to go along with two first-round picks that could potentially be top-10 spots depending on the lottery numbers.
Things aren't as bad as they seem, so wait until next February before you guys start to freak out.
New York Knicks: Plants vs. Zombies
20 of 30With guys like Mike Bibby and Baron Davis (not to mention Dan Gadzuric making a ridiculous appearance in two games this year) roaming around their court over the past season, it's obvious that the living dead have started to take over New York City.
New York needs to go out and purchase one of the best-selling apps out there in Plants vs. Zombies and practice keeping these things away from their home in order to keep them off their team next season.
Who can say with confidence that they'd be excited to have Bibby or Davis on their team next season?
Oklahoma City Thunder: Forbes Lifetime Financial Planning
21 of 30The Oklahoma City Thunder are entering a difficult phase of their rebuilding years (can we still actually call it that?) as they're going to have to start doling out more money in the next few years.
Kevin Durant signed his extension back in 2010 and Russell Westbrook inked his before the season started, but the Thunder have many more valuable pieces to lock down.
Both James Harden and Serge Ibaka will be restricted free agents next year, and it's time for the Thunder to start planning for that financially right now.
Orlando Magic: Pandora
22 of 30I get the feeling that nobody on this team wants to talk to each other, so why not just use Pandora during practices to make things seem less awkward?
Instead of having Stan Van Gundy shouting orders at Dwight Howard that will inevitably fall on deaf ears, just pump some Kanye West into the practice arena to fill up the awkward silence and drown out Dwight's trade demands.
Philadelphia 76ers: Routines
23 of 30The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the best teams in the NBA to start out the season, but they fell out of it before hitting their stride again recently in the playoffs.
It seems to me that they are creatures of habit, as dominating in one game will carry over into the next game and so on.
So, to keep them in the same routine day in and day out, they need to get Routines for all of their players. It will help them set up their daily routines down to the exact minute and keep them playing the same every day.
Phoenix Suns: Etch-a-Sketch
24 of 30The Phoenix Suns need to get used to seeing their favorite drawings and masterpieces get thrown away like the daily trash.
In order to prepare for the inevitable departure of Steve Nash, an Etch-a-Sketch app for their iPads would allow them to create something beautiful and watch it slowly fade away as they shake it clean.
Portland Trail Blazers: Web MD
25 of 30They may not have seen any real debilitating injuries this season, but that doesn't change the fact that the Blazers' 2012 season was directly affected by injuries.
If it weren't for their notorious past filled with torn ACLs and exploding menisci, the Portland Trail Blazers would be one of the most unstoppable forces in the NBA.
Instead, they've seen their heart and soul retire (Brandon Roy) and what was once the promising future of their team limp off into the sunset (Greg Oden).
It's time to get proactive instead of reactive and download that WebMD app so these things don't keep happening.
Sacramento Kings: Angry Birds
26 of 30For whenever someone on this team does something stupid, instead of just reeling off and taking shots at them through the media or yelling at them straight up, everybody on this team is going to have Angry Birds installed into their phones.
That way, if someone on this team is feeling upset or like they need to shout at someone else to make themselves feel better, they can just play a few games of Angry Birds to calm down.
By the time the finish a level, they'll completely have forgotten what they're upset about.
San Antonio Spurs: Foodspotting
27 of 30The San Antonio Spurs seem keen on blowing every team out of the water that they face, which is going to give them a lot of extra time around strange towns in the coming months. You know what, let's just say over the coming years, this dynasty is never going to die.
So, after a blowout and a quick two-hour game in any given NBA season, it's time for the team to hit the town and get their camaraderie on by going out to dinner together.
To find the perfect place to eat, they can use their new Foodspotting apps to find the best places to eat.
Toronto Raptors: Google Voice
28 of 30In order to check up on their players when they go home to their individual countries during the offseason, and to keep in contact with Jonas Valanciunas, their Lithuanian draftee from 2011, Google Voice would be the perfect choice.
This app allows for free international phone calls and text messages, which would help to keep the team interconnected over the offseason while not costing them any money.
Utah Jazz: Serenity
29 of 30The Utah Jazz just got annihilated by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs, and it's going to take a lot for the team to get over what happened over the course of the past few weeks.
In order to speed that recovery along, I would suggest they all get Serenity, the relaxation app.
Who can stay stressed out while looking at pictures of sunflowers or a sleeping kitten?
Washington Wizards: LinkedIn
30 of 30The Washington Wizards got rid of a few knuckleheads at the trade deadline during the 2012 season (and both JaVale McGee and Nick Young seem better for it), but they should let their players know that that might not have been the only expulsions from their team.
By downloading a LinkedIn app for everyone on the team and the staff, they can passive-aggressively send the message that everyone should keep their resume updated just in case they hit a slump and decide that a mass firing is needed.
If you are one of those twitterers, you can follow me @JDorsey33.
