GSP and 9 Fighters We'd Love to Be Trained by

Kyle SymesJun 6, 2018

One of the central themes in the Jon Jones-Rashad Evans rivalry was the idea of a family in the gym.

Professional fighters spend the majority of their day inside a single building with sweat, blood and tears all dripping equally throughout the day.

Having training partners that you love to be around is one of the key ingredients to making a successful gym. But of course it's not just enough to like who you train with, it's also important to train with some of the best fighters in the world.

The fighters on this list are some of the best in the world at what they do and would no doubt be near the top of any wish list for a potential fighter to train with.

Georges St-Pierre

1 of 10

Training with Georges St-Pierre has nothing to do with his colorful personality. It has everything to do with his skills as a fighter.

St-Pierre has transformed himself from a striker to one of the best wrestlers in MMA.

GSP's size makes him equally valuable to both small and bigger fighters. Also, GSP being one of the most paid fighters in the game means he would be more willing to fly out to wherever you are compared to you having to fly into Canada.

Besides training with one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in MMA today, St-Pierre is often times ahead of the curve in attempting new training methods—something any prospective training partner can appreciate.

Chael Sonnen

2 of 10

Chael Sonnen may be one of the most polarizing figures in MMA, but he's also one of the best in the world at what he does.

Sonnen brings some of the best wrestling in the history of MMA. He also would provide some great ways to stay in shape as Sonnen never tires in a fight.

Plus, Sonnen's one liners could provide a fun way to get through the hard times of training.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

3 of 10

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira may not be the same fighter he once was, but he remains one of the best fighters in MMA history.

He's also one of the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners in the sport. Training under/with Nogueira would provide a fighter with a wealth of knowledge to learn from. If a fighter had any holes in their submission game, Nogueira would certainly fill them.

Learning from Nogueira also has a proven track record given the success of Anderson Silva and Junior dos Santos.

Jon Jones

4 of 10

Jon Jones may be a youngster at just 24 years old, but it's clear he's absorbed a great deal of information from mentor Greg Jackson.

Jones doesn't have a wealth of knowledge to pick at, but he does possess some of the most unorthodox striking—a skill that could come in handy for prospective training partners. He also happens to be coached by one of the best coaches in MMA.

The current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion also is a physical freak and could be a perfect training partner. He could help taller fighters use their length while helping smaller fighters work their way in to negate a fighter's reach.

Dan Henderson

5 of 10

Dan Henderson is one of the best fighters in the world at either 205 pounds or 185 pounds. He also seems to be a fun guy to train with.

Henderson has one of the most laid back personalities, always replying with his trademark smirk. Other than personality traits, Henderson has one of the heaviest punches in MMA and also one of the best wrestling pedigrees.

Learning Greco-Roman wrestling from Henderson could be an invaluable learning experience along with being able to survive the H-Bomb in daily sparring sessions.

Anderson Silva

6 of 10

Anderson Silva may be quiet when the UFC cameras are on him, but it's clear from watching him inside the gym that Silva is a fun person to be around.

But training with one of the world's best is all about learning the skills that Silva has. Possessing amazing stand-up with a black belt in jiu-jitsu, any fighter could learn a great deal from the Brazilian.

Another advantage to training with Silva is the confidence boost he could provide. If a fighter can tag one of top guys in MMA during training, they would have to believe they can accomplish anything in their actual fight.

Dominick Cruz

7 of 10

One of the fighters to have benefited most from their coaching experience on The Ultimate Fighter undoubtedly has to be Dominick Cruz.

He entered the season as someone most fans either disliked or simply didn't care for. Since fans have been given a glimpse of "the real" Cruz, he seems to have won over a great deal of fans. He seems to be very down to earth and willing to help out anyone in need.

Other than the personality traits, Cruz has some of the best footwork in MMA. Also, Cruz has learned from one of the best jiu-jitsu coaches in the game, Lloyd Irvin, and would no doubt provide great insight into the grappling arts.

BJ Penn

8 of 10

One of the hardest things to avoid while training is becoming mentally burned out. Leave it to the Hawaiian born BJ Penn to provide some ways to relax during the stressful times of training.

Penn also happens to be one of the greatest jiu-jitsu practitioners in the history of the sport.

He's arguably the best American to compete in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is unquestionably one of the best MMA fighters in history.

Besides the jiu-jitsu skills, a fighter could learn from one of the best boxers in MMA as well.

Just go to someone else if you want cardio training.

Lyoto Machida

9 of 10

Lyoto Machida is a former world champion in the UFC and also one of the hardest riddles to solve in MMA.

Learning from Machida would instill a sense of discipline and respect given his traditional martial arts background. Machida is also considered a high-level competitor in other disciplines besides karate, like sumo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Learning Machida-style karate would give a fighter innovative striking techniques and also help a fighter's footwork. There's a reason Machida is one of the hardest-to-hit fighters in MMA today.

Urijah Faber

10 of 10

Watching Urijah Faber coach on The Ultimate Fighter has given us an inside peek as to what it's like to train with him.

Also, considering he's been one of the most influential fighters in the past decade, we've been exposed to Faber and Team Alpha Male for years now.

Not only is Faber one of the best fighters in the world, but he's also one of the most laid back guys in MMA. There's nothing worse than training with an uptight guy who can't have fun in the gym.

Training with Faber would help nearly every area of a fighter's game as he is one of the most complete fighters in MMA today. He is lightning fast, has powerful fists and a strong wrestling background to teach other fighters.
