WWE: The Top 25 Brock Lesnar Dream Matches
Brock Lesnar is back and WWE fans want to see his return maximized.
It's clear he has a showdown with Triple H coming in the near future, but who else will he battle during his second WWE stint?
Culling talent from WWE's full- and part-time roster and from Japan, TNA and MMA, there are a number of dream matches out there.
A good number of these have too many roadblocks to ever come to fruition, but fans root for the impossible when it could mean unadulterated awesomeness.
25. Rob Van Dam
1 of 25Though Rob Van Dam won't be nearly as fast or agile as he was when he and Brock Lesnar faced off before, the contrast of their styles should still make for great entertainment.
At Vengeance 2002, Van Dam and Lesnar's superb match had the audience supercharged.
10 years later, fans would love to see them try it again.
Van Dam would likely spend the majority of the action in defense mode, dodging and darting from Lesnar. The proverbial cat-and-mouse game would play out in the ring until finally the cat caught the mouse.
Possible Finish:
Van Dam goes a springboard senton, but Lesnar catches him in mid-air.
Lesnar smashes Van Dam to the mat with three consecutive powerbombs before covering him.
24. Masahiro Chono
2 of 25During his time with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Brock Lesnar won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship by pinning Masahiro Chono in a Triple Threat match.
The action was most exciting in that match when Lesnar and Chono faced each other alone.
Chono’s toughness and defiant attitude make him an intriguing opponent.
He would come after Lesnar with his array of painful submission holds and devastating kicks.
Possible Finish:
Lesnar rises to his knees, groggy. Chono rushes in for a Shining Black.
The kick knocks Lesnar woozy, but he doesn't fall. Chono hops up and delivers another.
This time Lesnar catches one of Chono's legs and twists it into a Brock Lock.
Chono can't withstand the pain and taps.
23. Drew McIntyre
3 of 25The most talented benchwarmer in wrestling could provide some quality fodder for Brock Lesnar.
Drew McIntyre would put up a valiant fight, but eventually be overwhelmed by Lesnar's power.
McIntyre is a fantastic in-ring storyteller and sells especially well. Few guys would make getting pounded into the mat look better.
Gaining the upper hand by using a pair of brass knuckles or some other underhanded tactic, McIntyre could play the crafty, unscrupulous veteran.
Possible Finish:
McIntyre goes on a small roll, dropkicking, DDTing and clotheslining the big man. With Lesnar dazed and brought to his knees, McIntyre climbs to the top rope.
He dives at Lesnar, but Mr. Here Comes the Pain catches him. Lesnar adjusts McIntyre's position on his shoulders and delivers a monstrous F-5.
22. Stephen Neal
4 of 25At 6'4'' and 300 lbs, the former New England Patriot could match Brock Lesnar in size and strength.
Their history goes back to 1999, where Neal defeated Lesnar in the NCAA wrestling championships.
A ready-made storyline would have Lesnar talk about defeating everyone who has ever beaten him at any level, about righting the past.
Neal is of course not a pro wrestler and wouldn't jump in a WWE ring and suddenly be Curt Hennig, but using his amateur skills, he could certainly grapple with Lesnar.
The match would bring in a few curious outsiders, while also attracting some mainstream media.
Possible Finish:
Lesnar has Neal in a corner, clocking him with elbows the way he did against John Cena at Extreme Rules.
The ref counts to five, warns Lesnar to stop, but he continues to thrash Neal.
Lesnar is disqualified, but he refuses to stop his assault. A pair of Patriots rush in to help their former teammate.
Lesnar makes quick work of them, clotheslining one and laying an F-5 on the other.
21. Kimbo Slice
5 of 25The King of the Web Brawlers has the size and strength to take Brock Lesnar on.
Though his UFC career didn't flourish, Slice is still a more famous face to the casual fan than some far superior fighters.
A Kimbo vs. Brock match would bring a lot of buzz with it, deserved or not.
Slice can be taught a few wrestling moves to add to his MMA arsenal before clashing with Lesnar in an intriguing MMA-style match.
Possible Finish:
Slice has Lesnar in position for a powerbomb. He lifts him up, but Lesnar manages to wrap his legs around Slice’s head for a Hell's Gate-type choke.
Slice falls to his knees and tries to free himself by punching at Lesnar's ribs, but eventually succumbs, passes out and loses.
20. Yugi Nagata
6 of 25Brock Lesnar's finest matches have been against Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle—technically savvy men who also tell great stories in the ring.
Yugi Nagata's style is very similar to Angle's.
He can attack Lesnar with his varied repertoire of submission holds and suplexes.
The two met previously in NJPW and fans would be thrilled by what they did for a sequel.
Possible Finish:
Nagata has Lesnar in the corner, attempting an Avalanche Exploder.
Lesnar fights out of it and kicks Nagata in the head. Lesnar locks his arms around Nagata's torso before executing a German Release suplex from the top rope.
The move is enough for a three count.
19. Christian (Ladder Match)
7 of 25Christian's speed and athleticism make for a compelling matchup.
Lesnar could get frustrated with not being able to ground Christian, especially if he's whacking Lesnar with ladders.
The addition of the ladder stipulation not only offers Christian a way to better his odds of winning, but utilizes his unparalleled skills with ladders.
Few men have worked so many classic ladders matches as Captain Charisma.
Possible Finish:
Christian has Lesnar dazed in the corner. He signals for a spear.
Christian charges toward Lesnar, but the big man scoops him up. Lesnar executes an F-5 to Christian, sending him face first out of the ring.
Lesnar climbs the ladder for the win.
18. Samoa Joe
8 of 25The Samoan Submission Machine would be an ideal opponent for Brock Lesnar.
Samoa Joe could stand toe-to-toe with him in terms of strength.
With Joe's array of suplexes and other power moves, it'd be fun to watch him and Lesnar trade momentum.
He's had highly entertaining matches with Kurt Angle, whose style is not as power-based but has a lot of parallels to Lesnar's.
Possible Finish:
Joe has Lesnar caught in the Coquina Clutch. Lesnar reaches for the ropes, but they're too far away.
Lesnar struggles, but Joe refuses to release the hold.
Eventually Lesnar manages to roll over and stand while Joe still clings to him. Lesnar drives his weight backwards and slams Joe into the canvas.
Stunned, Joe can't kick out of a pin in time.
17. Akira Taue
9 of 25Unfortunately, this match would come with Taue way past his prime, but the 50-year-old is still a powerful veteran wrestler.
Perhaps Lesnar can dominate much of the match, with a resilient Taue defying the odds by staying in the match, reminiscent of the Ricky Steamboat vs. Chris Jericho matches a few years back.
Taue has been a part of 14 five-star matches. Even at this stage of his career, his experience should make him capable of still producing a classic.
The Chichibu Cement vs. the F-5, size vs. size, generation vs. generation could likely end up combining for a show-stealing performance.
Possible Finish:
After an offensive run, Taue sets up Lesnar in the corner for a Nodowa Otoshi from the top rope, but Lesnar powers out.
He grabs Taue and lifts him in a fireman’s carry, still standing on the top rope. Lesnar delivers a ring-shaking F-5 from the top.
A pin and a count of three from the ref ends the match.
16. Kofi Kingston
10 of 25In the way that Chris Jericho or Rob Van Dam use speed and unorthodox offense to create great wrestling with Brock Lesnar, Kofi Kingston makes for an unexpected but spectacular opponent.
Kingston shouldn't be entered into a feud with Lesnar, as the lack of mic skills between the both of them would deflate the drama, but they could make for exciting ring action together.
Using Trouble in Paradise and his acrobatic moves, Kingston could stay in the match for a while, briefly getting the upper hand here and there.
Eventually, though, Lesnar could come down hard on the tag team champ.
Possible Finish:
Kingston dropkicks Lesnar, who stumbles through the ropes and out onto the floor. He dives out onto Lesnar with a Suicide Dive.
Lesnar moves out of the way. He picks up Kingston and F-5s him onto the steel steps.
Kingston flails in obvious pain. He suffers a kayfabe injury and the ref stops the match.
15. Big Show
11 of 25At Judgment Day 2003, Big Show and Brock Lesnar fought in a vicious Stretcher Match.
Lesnar created a stunning highlight when he dove off a forklift onto Show. The two men also destroyed a ring with a superplex before Show and Mark Henry repeated the stunt.
Few men can not only match Lesnar in strength, but tower over him.
Of course Big Show has aged and mellowed since those exciting encounters, but Lesnar is sure to bring out his most brutal side.
Possible Finish:
Big Show clocks Lesnar with the WMD. Lesnar falls stunned in the corner.
Show goes for the pin, but Lesnar slips his foot on the rope.
Big Show drags Lesnar towards the center of the ring, but Lesnar clamps onto Show's arm, bringing him down with the Kimura Lock.
Show struggles and squirms, but can't escape.
14. Sheamus
12 of 25Sheamus is the only current face not named John Cena able to match strength with Brock Lesnar.
A battle of power vs. power and past vs. present could give the Sheamus a stepping stone to greatness and provide Lesnar with a worthy opponent.
Lesnar is sure to bloody and defeat the Celtic Warrior, but in the process, we'll be unwilling to look away.
Possible Finish:
Lesnar catches Sheamus attempting a Battering Ram in mid-air and turns into a belly-to-belly suplex.
When Sheamus gets to his feet, Lesnar punches him in the gut and lifts him for powerbomb after powerbomb after powerbomb.
Lesnar covers him and the ref counts to three.
13. Kenta Kobashi
13 of 25Kenta Kobashi, Japanese legend and stinging chop specialist, is a master in-ring storyteller.
A match against Brock Lesnar wouldn't draw as much as it deserves because Kobashi's lack of celebrity in the U.S., but everyone who missed it would regret it.
A part of 24 five-star matches, Kobashi knows his way around a classic.
Pitting him against Lesnar would turn out a suplex-heavy, dramatic battle of wills.
Possible Finish:
After both men have tried all of their finishing moves and failed, they stand groggily in the center of the ring trading blows.
Lesnar hits Kobashi with a right hand. Kobashi retaliates with a chop.
Both men teeter.
Kobashi whips a lariat across Lesnar's chest. Both men collapse, Kobashi on top.
An unconscious Kobashi gets the pin.
12. Alistair Overeem
14 of 25Brock Lesnar's last UFC fight ended with him on his knees and Alistair Overeem punching him out.
In this dream rematch, one of the top-ranked MMA fighters in the world steps into Lesnar’s world.
Overeem could mock Lesnar and WWE itself with arrogant, dismissive promos leading to a match where Lesnar shows him just how punishing WWE can be.
Were this unlikely matchup to materialize, the mainstream sports media would magnify it with their presence.
Possible Finish:
Overeem has Lesnar down with a Key Lock submission.
Lesnar finds a way to squirm out of it and grab Overeem in the Kimura Lock.
Overeem is in intense pain, but refuses to tap out. Lesnar keeps the hold locked in for several moments.
Someone from Overeem's entourage throws in a white towel, ending the match.
11. Dolph Ziggler
15 of 25Dolph Ziggler's not likely to get the call against Brock Lesnar, but he has more than enough talent to make their encounter a Best of DVD-worthy one.
Ziggler’s blend of grappling and flash would be exciting to see against Lesnar’s power and submissions.
If Ziggler is capable of making Mason Ryan and Brodus Clay as good as he has, Brock Lesnar may end up looking like the greatest wrestlers of all time against him.
Possible Finish:
Lesnar grabs holds of the ropes after a set of stunning dropkicks. Ziggler runs at him from behind, looking for a Zig Zag.
Lesnar turns around just in time and turns the move into a spinebuster. He lifts Ziggler by his hair and ends the match with an F-5.
10. Daniel Bryan
16 of 25Brock Lesnar works best with someone who can carry their weight in the technical department.
Daniel Bryan is considered by many to be the best technical wrestler on the planet.
The distinct size advantage would mean Bryan would have to rely heavily on his speed, flying moves and strategy.
Every minute that Bryan could last in there with Lesnar makes him look stronger and stronger.
Lesnar would benefit from working a quicker style (assuming he's in better shape by then) and having a smaller guy to fling about the ring.
Possible Finish:
Lesnar hits Bryan with a powerbomb and a pin, but Bryan kicks out in two.
Lesnar snatches Bryan by the hair and rattles the ring with a backbreaker. Again, Bryan kicks out in two.
As Lesnar reaches for Bryan again, the American Dragon pins him with an inside cradle. Lesnar just kicks out in two.
Infuriated, Lesnar grabs Bryan once more and delivers a match-ending F-5.
9. Chris Jericho
17 of 25Chris Jericho's accusation of Brock Lesnar taking a dive against Alistair Overeem provides the beginnings of an easy-to-write feud.
Jericho's mic skills and ability to play mind games will make the action before the bell interesting. His speed, springboard moves and in-ring storytelling skills do the same for the match itself.
Lesnar and Jericho's styles contrast is compelling.
Possible Finish:
With the ref face down in a corner, Paul Heyman attempts to crack Jericho in the head with a chair.
He misses and instead hits Lesnar in the shoulder.
Jericho takes advantage and hits a Codebreaker. The ref stirs just in time to count to three.
8. Randy Orton
18 of 25Randy Orton's RKO makes for a great equalizer, making up somewhat for the size difference between him and Brock Lesnar.
In a face vs. heel matchup, one of WWE's vets tries to play predator against the predatory Lesnar.
Orton can mix it up with Lesnar in a brawl. His popularity and star power would call attention to this match and have fans wondering if he can overcome Lesnar’s strength and intensity.
Possible Finish:
Orton lands an RKO on Lesnar. Somehow he kicks out.
Orton delivers another one and just as the ref’s hand is about to hit the mat for three, Paul Heyman yanks Orton out of the ring by his leg.
A frustrated Orton chases Heyman.
This allows Lesnar to regain the advantage, clubbing Orton from behind before giving him an F-5 in the ring.
7. Elimination Chamber
19 of 25The Elimination Chamber match was made for a monster like Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar's destructive nature is sure to leave a pod door in shards and a few wrestlers writhing in pain.
Watching him pace in his pod, pounding on the glass with his teeth bared would be a deliciously disturbing sight.
Triple H and John Cena can be put into the match to make use of Lesnar's most recent feuds.
Guys like Cody Rhodes or Wade Barrett can be inserted as well. They wouldn't necessarily warrant a match with him one-on-one, but could do well in a setting like this one.
Possible Finish:
Cody Rhodes lands a Beautiful Disaster kick to Lesnar's head. Lesnar stumbles, but doesn't fall.
Triple H cracks him in the back with a steel chair.
Lesnar falls to one knee.
Sheamus rushes in for a Brogue Kick that finally puts Lesnar out for a pin.
6. Cain Velasquez
20 of 25Cain Velasquez smashed Brock Lesnar into a bloody mess at UFC 121, taking Lesnar's UFC Heavyweight Championship in the process.
A story of redemption and revenge is all but written already.
It's unlikely that Velasquez would cross over to the oft-ridiculed WWE, but he'd be great at it if he did.
He was a two-time All-American and a Pac-10 champion in wrestling.
His aggressive style and considerable fighting skills could have him follow in the footsteps of Ken Shamrock.
Lesnar vs. Velasquez II would be on Lesnar's home turf. The match would be heavy on the MMA style, but would throw in the flair of WWE as well.
Possible Finish:
Velasquez charges into Lesnar with a shoulder tackle, bowling him over.
He waits for Lesnar to get to his feet and comes at him again.
This time Lesnar counters with a clothesline.
Lesnar climbs to the top rope and delivers a Shooting Star Press. He covers Velasquez for the win.
5. Stone Cold (No DQ)
21 of 25Stone Cold says he's healthy again.
Though he'll likely be as rusty as the other returning stars of the past have been, his immense popularity would blind fans to any deficiencies.
Austin is the kind of brawler who could hang in there with the beast that is Brock.
This would be a fight more than a wrestling match and better suited for a no-disqualification stipulation.
With tables smashed and chairs bent, with the right story to deepen this, we could see one jaw-dropping war.
Possible Finish:
The time limit winding down, Stone Cold kicks Lesnar in the gut and grabs him for a Stunner.
Lesnar snatches Austin’s arms and puts him in a Kimura Lock.
Austin is too far from the ropes. He struggles and screams, but can't escape.
He simply survives until the bell rings and the match is declared a time-limit draw.
4. CM Punk
22 of 25WWE's current world champ meets former champ in era vs. era dream match.
Putting Paul Heyman and CM Punk in the same ring armed with microphones would make for promo magic.
The way that Brock Lesnar took Eddie Guerrero before their match at No Way Out 2004, he'd likely dismiss Punk’s chances.
Punk would be a valiant underdog, having to outsmart Lesnar in order to survive.
With the Anaconda Vise vs. the Kimura Lock and the GTS vs. the F-5, this has classic written all over it.
Possible Finish:
Lesnar attempts an F-5, but Punk manages to land on his feet.
Punk swings a roundhouse kick at Lesnar's head. Lesnar falls.
Punk drags him into a corner and sets up for a Pepsi Plunge. He nails it and gets the win.
3. The Rock
23 of 25Brock Lesnar became the youngest WWE Champion by defeating the Rock at Summerslam 2002.
Since then, both men's lives have changed dramatically. They are far more well-known outside of the wrestling world than they were before.
After leaving for Hollywood and MMA, respectively, The Rock and Lesnar are back where wrestling fans want them.
Rock vs. Brock II would sell whatever pay-per-view it was on.
Possible Finish:
The Rock attempts a Rock Bottom, but Lesnar counters it into a Kimura Lock. Rock manages to wiggle into the ropes and escape.
As Lesnar gets up to break the hold, Rock rushes in for a spinebuster. The crowd ignites as Rock kicks Lesnar's arm aside.
Rock hits the ropes running, but before he can deliver a People's Elbow, Lesnar catches him mid-stride and F-5s him in the center of the ring.
One…two…three.
2. Kurt Angle
24 of 25No one has the history and chemistry with Brock Lesnar that Kurt Angle does.
Their classic battle at WrestleMania XIX and their Iron Man Match on Smackdown in 2003 were amazing blends of power, grappling and storytelling.
Angle brings out Lesnar's best.
Though Angle is no longer in his prime, he's still capable of greatness.
Since their last clashes, things have changed. Lesnar's star power has grown, while Angle has been wrestling in front of thinner crowds.
Fans would love to see them go at it again, to dredge up their old hatred and suplex each other into oblivion.
Possible Finish:
Both men are exhausted, lying on their back in the center of the ring.
As they both rise to their feet slowly, Angle grabs Lesnar for a belly-to-belly suplex.
Lesnar kicks out at two.
Angle lifts him up for an Angle Slam. Again, there's only a two count.
An exasperated Angle stomps on Lesnar's head. He climbs to the top rope.
Bringing back memories of Brock’s famous botch, Angle performs a Shooting Star Press for the win.
1. The Undertaker (Falls Count Anywhere)
25 of 25A touch of real-life animosity from their confrontation after UFC 121 would add a buzzing energy to a new feud between the Undertaker and Brock Lesnar.
Their most famous match was a bloody brawl in Hell in a Cell.
Splice together clips of that vicious match, Taker staring down Lesnar at UFC 121 and a few new quotes and WWE has itself a fantastic video package to promote a huge match.
Lesnar, of course, has made a name for himself since that clash in the cell, but the Undertaker's status has gone from iconic to legendary.
Were he to square off against Lesnar, the wrestling world would crackle with excitement.
Possible Finish:
Undertaker and Lesnar fight on the steel steps outside the ring. They slug each other back and forth.
Taker grabs a weary Lesnar and puts him into position for a Tombstone.
He leaps off the steps and delivers his finisher from the steps onto the floor.
The Dead Man crosses Lesnar's hands on his chest and it's over.
