Notre Dame Football Recruiting 2013: 10 Must-Gets for the Irish
The Irish have been solid during Brian Kelly's tenure recruiting-wise. A perennial top-10 type of class seems to be the norm in the Brian Kelly era, and that's good news for Irish fans.
Right now, the Irish also have a top-10 pace going for 2013, yet it's early. They have their Irish eyes set on several top notch prospects and, of course being who they are, have interest from recruits all over the country.
Here are 10 must-get recruits for 2013 Notre Dame football recruiting.
10. Priest Willis, S
1 of 10Willis is a big, 6'2", 190-pound DB that can play safety and corner. He can run, hit and play with range, instincts and athleticism.
All of those traits are still needed on the Irish roster.
Willis is still open in his recruitment, but he has told Scout.com that he wants to take a trip to South Bend to check things out in person.
9. Earnest Robinson, WR
2 of 10Robinson is a Georgia native and is one of the best offensive prospects in the entire Peach State this cycle.
A 6'2", 195-pound WR, Robinson has great size, can muscle-up for balls and move the chains.
8. Alex Anzalone, RB/LB
3 of 10An interesting turn of events has happened with Anzalone's commitment to Ohio State and now the Key Stone State native is back on the market.
Notre Dame likely is not going to land RB Ty Isaac, yet Anzalone could be an alternative. The Irish are recruiting the 6'3", 220-pound Anzalone as a RB, and his size is just about the same as Isaac's.
7. Isaac Rochell, DE/OT
4 of 10Rochell also is from Georgia and stands 6'5" with a weight of nearly 260 pounds. He's got an amazing amount of potential as a football player, where he could become a great DE or grow into an athletic OT.
With academics being a great allure of Notre Dame, this aspect has impressed Rochell, and the Irish look good for him right now.
6. Leon McQuay, S
5 of 10Notre Dame has a tendency to get some looks from Florida prospects, as the Irish will go into the Sunshine State looking for sped and athleticism.
Leon McQuay fits that bill well, as the 6'1", 185-pound safety prospect is a good one. He's heady, instinctive, smart, aware and has good speed to play the back end for the Irish.
5. Alquadin Muhammad, DE
6 of 10Hailing from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, Muhammad is the star of the team after the "Don Bosco 4" have graduated.
An athletic 6'3", 230-pound DE/LB prospect, Muhammad can get it done off the edges. He's quick off the ball, has great pursuit speed and has improving play strength.
Notre Dame took his teammate Elijah Shumate in last year's class, so Muhammad has some close ties to the program.
4. Michael Hutchings, OLB/SS
7 of 10One of the best talents in California, Hutchings is a 6'2", 210-pound defender that can play OLB or SS for a defense. He's a rangy and athletic defender that has good quickness and instincts.
Frankly, I think he's USC's to lose, but Hutchings does round out a top five of Notre Dame, Miami, Oregon and Washington to go along with the Trojans.
3. Ethan Pocic, OT
8 of 10The Irish already have five OL commitments in their 2013 class, but adding another one won't hurt, especially when it's Ethan Pocic.
From Illinois, Pocic is a 6'6", 285-pound OT that plays with a mean and nasty streak. He moves targets off their spots in the run game, has good power, strength and can finish.
Pocic will hold his own as a pass protector as well. Notre Dame is among his favorites, but Pocic is still pretty open at this point.
2. Jaylon Smith, OLB
9 of 10Smith is the top in-state prospect for the Irish, as he's a Hoosier State native.
A 6'3", 225-pound OLB prospect, Smith is very athletic on the second level, shows good instincts and can factor well versus the run and pass.
His brother plays at Ohio State, and the Buckeyes are the top competition for the Irish. Will he join his brother in Columbus or head to South Bend to blaze his own path?
1. Ryan Green, RB
10 of 10The Irish always are searching ways to add more explosiveness and speed to their team. Ryan Green would be a huge boost in those areas.
A 5'11", 190-pound RB, Green can flat out fly around the football field. He's sudden, has a great burst and can skate to and through holes. The Florida native would be a great pickup for the Irish.
