Brock Lesnar: WWE Doing a Fantastic Job Making It Easy to Hate Brock

Brian MaziqueJun 2, 2018

The WWE is doing a bang-up job driving Brock Lesnar’s heel status home—even if some of their actions have been improvisational. I’m sure they meant to have him do despicable things, come off as anti-establishment, blah, blah, blah.

But the current angle for the “next big thing”, could lead to fan frustration, as much as the systematic hate the writers planned. He’s a heel, so fans that love baby faces are supposed to detest him, but Lesnar is beginning to represent a disturbing trend in the WWE.

He has a huge name, but his in-ring work is a bit sloppy. This is understandable, due to his long lay-off from ring action. My problem with his presence is in his limited schedule.

With so few appearances, Lesnar won’t have the opportunity to work off the ring rust.

It‘s not just the ring action that needs to be polished. He was never great on the mic, so he had to depend on Paul Heyman to be his voice.

In the latest work in the Brock Lesnar saga, he is apparently quitting the WWE (shown in the video below).

As you can see, the WWE has called on Heyman to be Lesnar’s voice again. We can speculate on what Lesnar’s absence is about: he could be attempting work off the ring rust, he could be injured, he could even have another commitment; it’s all speculation at this point.

What is clear is that Lesnar is not a consistent presence on WWE programming, and I find that frustrating. It makes me despise Lesnar’s angle and his presence in major story lines.

But it isn’t because of his actions during the angle, or because of some scandalous promo he or Heyman cut.

It’s because Lesnar and every other part-time superstar is a tease. As soon as you get into their angle, and build up a healthy hate for the character, he’s whisked away to maintain his rationed amount of TV appearances.

Fans are being duped by this trend, and in my opinion, it’s bad for the overall product. Here’s a suggestion: how about advising Heyman to start referring to Brock as the “next cheap thrill”, because that’s exactly what he’s turned out to be.
