Robert Nkemdiche: Why the No. 1 Recruit Was Wise To Postpone Decision
I never quite understood why some of the country's top recruits committed to schools in late April or early May. It may get the decision process out of the way, but it doesn't stop schools from recruiting and trying to convince them that their school is better than the one they originally chose.
Robert Nkemdiche is one of the top recruits in the country and listed as the top defensive end of the 2013 class on most recruiting websites. He was expected to make his decision on May 18, but has recently backtracked and will likely announce which school he will attend much closer to National Signing Day.
"“I’m just not ready yet,” Nkemdiche said. “This is one of the biggest decisions of my life. I want to go see some new places, and go back to some other places to spend more time with the coaches and to check out the campuses. It’s a big decision, and I want to get it right.” (via the Atlanta Journal Constitution)

This is something that other recruits can take notes from. There's really no point for Nkemdiche to make a decision in May when he has not taken all of his official visits yet. It would also be wise if he talked to all of the coaches to find out how they intend to use him and how early he would see the field.
Speaking of coaches, there's no that guarantee any of them will still be around by the time Nkemdiche is ready to arrive on campus. Just look at Penn State and Arkansas during this offseason. We see many recruits pick a school and end up at a different school by the time National Signing Day arrives for many different reasons.
Did I forget to mention that signing day isn't until Feb. 6, 2013?
Nkemdiche will have the time to do his homework and make sure that the school he chooses is the best fit. He's going to have to spend the next several years there, so going about the process in a thorough manner can only help him.
Nkemdiche is an athletic defensive lineman at 6'4", 268 pounds and has the potential to play inside or outside. He could also end up playing the running back position due to his size and quick feet.
The top prospect is looking at schools like Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Ole Miss, among others. It would also be foolish to count out the home state schools such as Georgia and Georgia Tech.
