Alabama Football Recruiting 2013: 10 Must-Gets for the Crimson Tide

Edwin WeathersbyJun 2, 2018

Alabama is coming off both a BCS National Championship season and a 2012 No.1 recruiting class. It's what I call the "College Football Double Whammy Championship."

The Tide will be a title contender yet again this year, and of course they will be in the hunt for another No. 1 recruiting class. On the trail, Alabama already has 11 commitments and have some top-notch talent.

Here are 10 "must-get" prospects for the Tide in 2013.

10. Hunter Henry, TE

1 of 10

Henry hails from Arkansas, but with the Hogs in a bit of flux these days, 'Bama has a shot to snatch another player from their SEC rivals.

A talented big TE prospect, Henry os 6'6", 240 pounds and has a thick frame with excellent pass-catching skills.

Alabama would do well to get him, as he'd add another dimension and weapon to a somewhat recent vanilla offense.

9. Vonn Bell, DB

2 of 10

Nick Saban is a DB coach at heart, which is why you always see top-notch defensive backs come out of his programs.

Bell is a 6'1", 190-pounder that can play both cornerback and safety for a defense. He hits like a truck and can cover receivers in both man and zone schemes.

Landing him would also deliver a blow to a couple other SEC programs, as Bell has offers from pretty much the entire conference.

8. James Quick, WR

3 of 10

A Bluegrass State native, Quick is a 6'1", 175-pound WR prospect.

He would add another weapon to the 'Bama offense, which has done a pretty good job of addressing its lack of playmakers on the offensive perimeter.

Getting another receiver like Quick would work wonders in adding speed, quickness and firepower to the Tide offense, which is sorely needed.

7. Kendall Beckwith, ATH

4 of 10

Alabama, like many other programs, pride themselves on getting versatile and athletic players in recruiting. Beckwith fits that mold as the 6'3", 225-pounder is an athletic and versatile player.

Whether you see him becoming a OLB, DE, WR, RB or QB, Beckwith can do it all. He's agile, fast, strong and big.

LSU is also in the hunt for him.

6. Cooper Bateman, QB

5 of 10

Possessing the strongest arm in the country, Bateman is the top Class of 2013 QB on the Tide's board right now. At 6'3", 205 pounds, the Utah product is a good athlete and can gain yards via air or ground.

He's also already taken a trip to Tuscaloosa, and for what it's worth, I feel Alabama is the front-runner right now for him.

He's a must-get because after losing Phillip Sims to a transfer back home to Virginia, some QB depth is needed at Alabama. Bateman would give the team depth and a QB of the future.

5. Montravius Adams, DT

6 of 10

An elite DT prospect, the Georgia native Adams is a  6'3", 290-pound explosive trench man. He's a one-gap guy that has the potential to be developed into a two-gap DT.

A lot is raw with Adams, but his snap quickness can be overwhelming, as his strength and athleticism for a DL.

Alabama needs to get him to both keep him away from other SEC programs and also to get another great DL on the roster moving forward.

4. Antonio Conner, S

7 of 10

Conner likely will head to Ole Miss, but I think he's going to look at Alabama and Mississippi State to make sure he doesn't miss out on anything in Oxford.

Alabama needs to convince him that he will.

I really think this guy has a chance to be the next Mark Barron for Alabama, should he sign with the Tide. Conner is 6'2", 200 pounds and is an excellent SS prospect.

3. Matthew Thomas, OLB

8 of 10

Thomas could be the next great Jack LB for the Tide, if he ends up there.

He's 6'4", 210 pounds and from Florida, meaning Alabama will have to deal with Miami and the rest of the Big Three schools in the Sunshine State.

If the Tide signs this guy, they are getting an athletic edge defender that really fits their scheme.

Thomas can stand up on the edges as a rush end/OLB in the 30 front looks, and when 'Bama moves to a 40 front, he can put his hand down.

2. Robert Foster, WR

9 of 10

Foster is among the very most wide open recruits in the country. It's tough to get a read on where he's leaning, but Alabama has offered him.

At 6'3', 190 pounds, he's incredibly explosive off the line, smooth in his routes, can cut quickly and sharply and has good hands.

Foster would be an immediate deep threat in the SEC, and that's saying something because we all know how good the speed is in the conference.

1. Robert Nekmdiche, DL

10 of 10

Nkemdiche has the hype of a Lawrence Taylor, Julius Peppers and Jadeveon Clowney type of DE. He's 6'5" and nearly 280 pounds.

Yet, don't think he'd be a DL if he came to Alabama, as Nkemdiche is an athletic freak that likely would play OLB in the Alabama 3-4 defense.

He could play the Jack or Sam for the Crimson Tide and perhaps be just downright dominant at it.
