Most Overrated Player from Every NBA Playoff Team
During the NBA playoffs, each and every player is thrust under the microscope and over-analyzed even more than normal. These players might not like that so much, as you'll soon find that they're actually overrated.
For various reasons, 13 of the 16 teams have a player who can absolutely be identified using the dreaded "overrated" word.
Read on to find out who they are.
Atlanta Hawks, Joe Johnson
1 of 16I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Six years.
$119 million.
Boston Celtics, Rajon Rondo
2 of 16Rajon Rondo might be one of the best five point guards in the league right now, but the select group of people who think he's one of the three best and advocates it vociferously make him a little bit overrated.
A tremendous passer and outstanding defender who has occasional outbursts in the scoring department, Rondo is also a little bit too suspension prone.
Chicago Bulls, Joakim Noah
3 of 16I'm only calling Joakim Noah overrated because of recent events.
When Derrick Rose went down with a torn ACL, the Chicago Bulls lost a lot of their offensive output. That meant that everyone on the team had to step up their offensive games a little bit, but some players aren't capable of being high-scorers and great assist men.
Noah is still a terrific defender in the post and even on the perimeter, but he's a little bit overvalued right now because his role hasn't changed.
Dallas Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki
4 of 16Last season, DIrk Nowitzki just went off in the playoffs, absolutely dominating for prolonged periods of time en route to his first career NBA title.
He hit shot after tough shot and seemingly willed the Dallas Mavericks to a few wins. This season, we expect him to do the same.
But the problem is, Dirk isn't quite the same player that he was last year now that there's another year of wear and tear on his body. Plus, he's not quite as motivated because he already has one ring on his finger.
Denver Nuggets, No One
5 of 16This is one of the three teams for which I couldn't come up with any overrated players.
It seems as though all of the players on the Denver Nuggets are either perfectly rated or a little bit underrated. No one expects them to be stars, and they aren't.
Indiana Pacers, Danny Granger
6 of 16As much as I love watching Danny Granger play basketball, he really isn't a No. 1 option on the court. But that's exactly what the Indiana Pacers have tried to make out of him these last few years.
Granger is a fantastic player, but he simply isn't a superstar.
Los Angeles Clippers, Nick Young
7 of 16Does anybody realize that Nick Young isn't actually good and just shoots a lot?
The person who least realizes this, though, seems to be Mr. Young himself.
Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan Hill
8 of 16Jordan Hill is overrated right now simply because he's not going to be playing with the Los Angeles Lakers for an inexcusable reason. But even before that, the forward broke out for the Lakers and was immediately proclaimed a savior for the team.
It was a little too soon for that.
Memphis Grizzlies, Tony Allen
9 of 16Tony Allen is a terrific perimeter defender, but I'm starting to get the feeling that his defense is actually getting mythologized.
Believe it or not, he isn't capable of shutting down the opponent's best player on every single possession. Yet you'd be surprised just how many people think he can.
Miami Heat, Shane Battier
10 of 16The very fact that Shane Battier is still in the NBA might make him a teensy bit overrated.
For a guy with a defensive reputation, though, he sure gets torched a lot on that end of the court. During the series with the New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony has been making him look silly each and every time the two are matched up.
New York Knicks, Amar'e Stoudemire
11 of 16Pick your favorite joke:
A. Amar'e Stoudemire was just searching for another way to put out the Heat.
B. That was the first time Amar'e Stoudemire hit the glass all series.
C. Quick! Get the paramedics here STAT!
Oklahoma City Thunder, Derek Fisher
12 of 16I have started referring to this man as the corpse of Derek Fisher.
Yeah, I think he's overrated because he still actually has a role with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Orlando Magic, Ryan Anderson
13 of 16Ryan Anderson is a very deserving candidate for Most Improved Player this year, but he's just disappeared during the playoffs.
Quite frankly, I thought that Anderson would be able to step up as the big man on campus with Dwight Howard sidelined by a bad back. But the opposite has been true, kind of like a three-spot hitter in baseball who suddenly loses the protection his All-Star cleanup hitter provides.
Anderson has averaged only 7.7 points per game so far this postseason. Ouch.
Philadelphia 76ers, No One
14 of 16This is one of the three teams for which I couldn't come up with any overrated players.
It seems as though all of the players on the Philadelphia 76ers are either perfectly rated or a little bit underrated.
Here's a great example of what happens when a truly well-balanced team is built.
San Antonio Spurs, No One
15 of 16This is the last of the three teams for which I couldn't come up with any overrated players.
It seems as though all of the players on the San Antonio Spurs are either perfectly rated or a little bit underrated.
If anything, the team as a whole is underrated. Somehow, no one talks about them, ever.
Utah Jazz, Devin Harris
16 of 16Devin Harris really just hasn't been the same ever since he joined the Utah Jazz.
He's struggled even more than normal during recent games, especially against the San Antonio Spurs, and now finds himself splitting minutes with Jamaal Tinsley and Alec Burks.
