Frenz of the Family: Must-Reads Around the AFC East, May 2 Edition

Erik FrenzJun 7, 2018

New England Patriots

The Patriots approach in the draft clearly was directed toward versatility on defense, and Mike Dussault of PatsPropaganda.com writes that this could be another defensive dynasty in the making.

But the big news on Tuesday was John Harbaugh's comments about the Patriots Super Bowl wins possibly being tainted by Spygate (although Harbaugh's comment was more about the public perception than his own beliefs). B/R featured columnist Tony Santorsa asks, "Do the Patriots deserve an asterisk for their Super Bowl wins?" Take a read and find out his thoughts.

As we remove ourselves more and more from the immediate reaction to the draft, we get more perspective on why the picks were made. In that sense, Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog writes that linebacker Demario Davis could be an answer (or at least an attempt at an answer) to Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Taking it one (or seven) steps further, B/R Jets featured columnist Danny Paskas gives his thoughts on how all of the Jets draft picks fit into the plan, the system, etc. headed into 2012.

Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Post gathered the opinions of two ESPN analysts on Ryan Tannehill. First up was Jon Gruden, who had high praise for Tannehill (perhaps "I love this guy"?) and then came Mel Kiper Jr. who likes the fit for Tannehill in Miami and thinks Joe Philbin is the perfect coach to bring him along.

Meanwhile, B/R's resident X's and O's guru Alen Dumonjic gives a breakdown on how Tannehill fits into the offensive plan. More than I can explain here, but definitely worth a read.

While many fans of the Bills wanted the Bills to draft Luke Kuechly with the No. 10 overall pick, he wasn't available and the team went with Stephon Gilmore instead. No matter, though, as GM Buddy Nix indicates that they got the player they wanted in the first place.

Taking it one step further, Aaron Nagler of B/R's Go Route blog writes that Gilmore could be seen as an answer to the Patriots tight ends. Noticing a trend here?
