New York Yankees: What Yankees Hitters Are on Pace for After April

John NizinskiJun 7, 2018

The month of April is officially over and the Yankees have had an interesting start to their season.

They are among the top teams in baseball as expected, but most players are not playing as expected. Some hitters had a better April than projected, while some have done worse.

Here is a look at the Yankees' hitters statistics in April and what their projected statistics are for a full season, from those April stats.

Derek Jeter

1 of 12

April Stats: .389, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 37 hits, 1 SB, 22 games

Derek Jeter has gotten off to a nice start and was among the top players in baseball so far.

He has carried the Yankees offense with consistent hitting and some surprising power. Jeter is most likely going to come down to Earth a little bit as the season continues.

Projected: .389, 29 HR, 96 RBI, 272 hits, 7 SB, 162 games

Nick Swisher

2 of 12

April Stats: .284, 6 HR, 23 RBI, 23 hits, 21 games

Nick Swisher has played as good as he ever has in his career, to start the 2012 season. He has helped carry the Yankees offense as some other players have struggled.

The Yankees are hoping his hamstring injury does not cause him to miss many games.

Projected: .284, 44 HR, 170 RBI, 170 hits, 155 games

Robinson Cano

3 of 12

April Stats: .267, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 24 hits, 22 games

Robinson Cano had an April to forget. He is one of the best overall players in baseball, but has not played that way in 2012.

Projected: .267, 7 HR, 29 RBI, 177 hits, 162 games

Alex Rodriguez

4 of 12

April Stats: .244, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 20 hits, 2 SB, 22 games

Alex Rodriguez has not gotten hot yet but the most important thing is that he has been in all 22 games for the Yankees.

Projected: .244, 29 HR, 81 RBI, 147 hits, 15 SB, 162 games

Mark Teixeira

5 of 12

April Stats: .244, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 21 hits, 21 games

Mark Teixeira has gotten off to his usual slow start and should begin to get hot soon.

Projected: .244, 22 HR, 88 RBI, 155 hits, 155 games

Curtis Granderson

6 of 12

April Stats: .262, 8 HR, 16 RBI, 22 hits, 22 games

Curtis Granderson has picked up where he left off last season. He leads the Yankees in home runs and could soon lead in RBI as well.

Projected: .262, 59 HR, 118 RBI, 162 hits, 162 games

Raul Ibanez

7 of 12

April Stats: .241, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 14 hits, 2 SB, 18 games

Raul Ibanez was brought in to be the designated hitter. Because of Brett Gardner's injury, Ibanez has been asked to do more. The Yankees should be satisfied with the production they have gotten from Ibanez.

Projected: .241, 22 HR, 89 RBI, 103 hits, 15 SB, 133 games

Russell Martin

8 of 12

April Stats: .167, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 9 hits, 19 games

Russell Martin struggled horribly in April. He basically did nothing with the bat and it will be interesting to see how long the Yankees stick with Martin, if he does not improve his hitting.

Projected: .167, 15 HR, 44 RBI, 66 hits, 140 games

Brett Gardner

9 of 12

April Stats: .321, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 9 hits, 2 SB, 9 games

Brett Gardner got off to a nice start but it has been plagued with an elbow injury. He has only played in nine of the Yankees' 22 games.

Projected: .321, 0 HR, 22 RBI, 66 hits, 15 SB, 66 games

Andruw Jones

10 of 12

April Stats: .200, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 6 hits, 11 games

Andruw Jones is at the stage in his career where he is a role player. He has hit for power which is expected. The Yankees would like for his average to be a little higher, which could happen with more consistent playing time.

Projected: .200, 22 HR, 37 RBI, 44 hits, 81 games

Eduardo Nunez

11 of 12

April Stats: .313, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 10 hits, 3 SB, 13 games

There is no doubt that Eduardo Nunez can hit at the major league level. The issue with Nunez is his inconsistency in the field.

Projected: .313, 0 HR, 22 RBI, 74 hits, 22 SB, 96 games

Eric Chavez

12 of 12

April Stats: .321, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 9 hits, 13 games

Eric Chavez has done a nice job when asked to play. Chavez will continue to get playing time if he hits like he did in April.

Projected: .321, 22 HR, 37 RBI, 66 hits, 96 games
