WWE: Is John Cena Best off Left out of the WWE Title Picture Indefinitely?
For now, the WWE title is the farthest thing from John Cena's mind. At least on television, but maybe not in reality.
The WWE superstar has other beasts to tame—like Brock Lesnar, Lord Tensai and anyone else John Laurinaitis has to throw his way. It's safe to say that the WWE is taking their cash cow and most popular wrestler and moving him away from the WWE title picture, which allows CM Punk to grasp the spotlight. Hopefully other wrestlers will jump up and take the reigns of the future of both Raw and SmackDown.
Bravo, creative.

It is a move that makes sense, but also leaves us wonder what happens next. Should Cena be left out of the WWE Title scene indefinitely? Should he fight the good fight for the company (like Sting in WCW or AJ Styles in TNA) and battle major "brand" wrestlers like Lesnar, Tensai, maybe Chris Jericho or any other wrestler who decides to un-retire or jump up and act a little froggy?
Cena is still a great draw; his battle with The Rock proved that. Whether he is still as demanding to the fans with this new encounter with Lesnar remains to be seen, mainly because I get the feeling fans aren't sold yet on Lesnar and the direction he will take with the company.
Yes, I think he is there for the money, not for the wrestling. But, you cannot argue with his appeal to the WWE right now and an angry Lesnar is good for ratings and John Cena. But this is not a program that will last long. It can't. Fans will get bored with it and the idea of Laurinaitis throwing big bodies at Cena to test his machismo is kind of cool.
You have to wonder: Who's Next? No, that is not a plug for Goldberg. But in reality, keeping Cena away from the title does many good things for the company.
What I want to happen—and it has not materialized yet because CM Punk is still wrapped in the drinking war with Chris Jericho—is to see Dolph Ziggler take another step forward. I want to see what happens with Cody Rhodes (he needs to come to Raw and claim the WWE Title). I think Daniel Bryan should try his hand at an angle with Punk, without the interference. And we should see if Mark Henry is still the champion we can all love to hate.
And of course, there is always The Miz.
There really is a lot going on in the WWE. There are stars who can carry the strap and the company. There are angles still untested and there are storylines still waiting to be written.
But giving John Cena another title shot right now and in the foreseeable future is not going to make the WWE thrive. It may sell tickets and it may continue to allow Cena to have the last word on Raw every Monday night. But it will also hold back wrestlers who should be getting more camera time, and if not, then they should move on (Drew McIntyre, TNA is calling).
Cena has been the "rock" this company has thrived on for years, but he was given a hot torch and he has lit everything up until the flame started to flicker.
Now it is time to see who else can keep the light glowing.
