Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: Happy Trails, Aaron Green

Adam JacobiApr 30, 2012

Rise and shine, friends. Here's what's going down in the Big Ten today.

Nebraska running back Aaron Green has decided to transfer. Green was battling with Ameer Abdullah for the second-string tailback role behind Rex Burkhead for the 2012 season; that plan has obviously changed. Green is likely Big 12-bound, according to his father; Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas Tech and TCU were all mentioned as potential landing spots. Green is from San Antonio.

- Northwestern staged its annual dizzy bat contest at the end of spring practices last week, and now there's video. Oh and also, there are hot dogs.

Truly, this is the most epic use of baseball bats and hot dogs since... well, honestly, I don't know what else you would do with those two things. Hit the hot dogs with baseball bats? That's just overkill.

- Six weeks after a university police raid at his on-campus apartment, Penn State wideout Devon Smith has finally been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith had not been suspended by the team at any point during spring practice, but a foot injury kept him out for most of the session anyway.

- In more positive legal news, Michigan safety Josh Furman was ruled not guilty of all charges by a judge last week. Furman was charged with a variety of crimes, including domestic violence, but the two witnesses told the judge they didn't believe Furman had done anything wrong.

Furman's status with the team is "still being evaluated," according to Brady Hoke, but this ruling is positive news; anything less than winning the case would have likely merited removal from the football team.

- Penn State's season ticket sales are lagging, according to the Patriot-News, but the lull may not last. Associate athletic director Greg Myford said the school was about 4,000 season tickets behind last year's total, but that a substantial number of ticket holders were just receiving their applications in the mail. Myford says he thinks "it will be very, very close to where we ended up [last year] season ticket-wise."
