Steve Nash may have played his last game as a member of the Phoenix Suns; he will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and surely be looking to join a team with championship potential.

Nash has played eight consecutive seasons in Phoenix, and 10 total with the Suns, the franchise that drafted him in 1996. 

The two-time MVP made the Suns relevant after returning to the desert nearly a decade ago, and reintroduced NBA fans to exciting, fun, team basketball.

5. Drafted 15th Overall

It had to start somewhere. Steve Nash was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft, but only lasted two seasons with the team before being traded to Dallas in 1998.

A former Santa Clara Bronco, Nash averaged 14.9 points and 4.5 assists per game during his four seasons in college, and shot better than 40 percent from three-point range and nearly 87 percent from the foul line over that time.

The sociology major was hardly met with cheers and excitement, but a decade later he would become arguably the most beloved player in franchise history.

4. Avenges the Dallas Mavericks

One season after leaving the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent, Steve Nash gave his old squad nightmares.

The league MVP lifted Phoenix to a 4-2 series win over Dallas in the 2005 Western Conference Semifinals thanks to an unforgettable six-game performance.

Nash averaged 30.3 points, 12 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game in six games against the Mavericks in May 2005.

In a Game 4 loss in Dallas, Nash would score a career playoff high 48 points on 20-of-28 shooting from the field. Three nights later in a crucial Game 5, Nash recorded the first and only playoff triple-double of his career: 34 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists. 

In the close-out Game 6 back in Big D, the Suns needed overtime, but Nash ultimately finished off the Mavs in style, playing 50 minutes total and scoring 39 points to go along with 12 assists.

3. Passes the Big O on All-Time Assist List

Steve Nash passed Oscar Robertson in 2012 to take over fifth on the all-time career assist list.

Nash has dropped off 6,997 dimes in a Suns uniform, 9,916 total during his 16-year career.

Though John Stockton's 15,806-mark will likely never be touched, Nash is poised to pass Magic Johnson and Mark Jackson for fourth and third all-time respectively, if he plays at least one more season.

Arguably the greatest pure passer of all time, Nash will be remembered in Phoenix as one of the NBA's greatest pass-first point guards and teammates.

2. Suns Sweep the Spurs

Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns finally overcame their cruel nemesis in 2010, ousting the San Antonio Spurs from the playoffs thanks to a memorable 4-0 sweep.

Nash's warrior-like road effort in Game 4, in which his right eye was nearly swollen shut for the entire fourth quarter thanks to a Tim Duncan elbow in the third, helped the Suns advance to the Western Conference Finals for the third time since Nash's return in 2004.

San Antonio ended Nash's and the Suns' season in 2005, 2007 and 2008, but Phoenix had never been swept by the Spurs in the postseason with the two-time MVP running the show.

1. Back-to-Back League MVPs

Steve Nash won his first Maurice Podoloff Trophy in 2005 after leading the Phoenix Suns to a 62-win regular season, matching the franchise's record for most wins in a season.

The 62 wins were 33 more than Phoenix had the previous season with No. 13. 

Despite the negative reaction by many who believed Nash was undeserving of MVP honors, the Canadian came right back in 2006, winning the award for the second straight season.

Nash shot better than 50 percent from the field, 43 percent from beyond the arc and 90 percent from the free throw line during his two MVP seasons with the Suns. Phoenix reached the Western Conference Finals in both seasons.

Nash and Magic Johnson are the only point guards to ever win the award more than once.
