WWE Mailbag: Answering Your Questions on the WWE Draft, Lord Tensai and More
The WWE Mailbag is back.
You all probably know the formula by now: You ask all of your WWE-related questions, I pick the best ones and give you my answers.
To ask questions, send them through either Twitter or Formspring, and of course, make 'em good.
In today's mailbag, I tackle a number of topics, including the WWE Draft, what's going to happen to John Cena after Extreme Rules and a look at the past 10 WrestleManias.
Alright, enough with the intros. Let's get started.
Here is the April 27th WWE Mailbag. Happy Friday, y'all.
Who Will Be the Next Mid-Card Titleholders?
1 of 10Who will hold the IC title after Big Show and who will hold the US title after Santino?
This is sorta hard to predict because guys go after titles that aren't even on their respective brands so often, but I'll take a shot at it anyway.
Santino Marella will defend the United States Championship against The Miz this Sunday on the Extreme Rules pre-show, and though I'm leaning toward a Santino win, I could see The Miz winning the belt.
I know The Miz has been completely off of TV over the last several weeks, but I don't think the long-term plan is to keep the belt on Santino. Plus, considering that The Miz now has a lot of heels ahead of him on the WWE's pecking order, a drop to the mid-card title seems a lot more likely.
I'll go with The Miz being the next US Champ for now, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go back on Jack Swagger or perhaps even on David Otunga (yes, unfortunately).
As for Big Show's Intercontinental title, the way that Cody Rhodes has been booked lately suggests that he may rise up to win the belt at Extreme Rules.
I just don't see that happening.
There's no real need to put the belt back on Rhodes, but at the same time, there aren't going to be very many superstars that the WWE will be willing to put over Big Show.
I could see someone like Christian doing that (he's advertised to wrestle Show at upcoming live events), but on a whim, I'll go with Damien Sandow, who should get a very solid push once he actually wrestles and would give Show a fresh opponent.
Which Active Wrestler Would Make the Best Manager?
2 of 10I've heard it suggested that Teddy Long should be a manager which got me thinking. Who do you think, of the active, male WWE wrestlers, would be ultimately better off if they became a manager and "gave up" wrestling?
I don't think there's any question about this one. It's David Otunga.
At least in my view, he's developed into a pretty good heel TV character.
But as a wrestler? He's still got a boatload of work to do, and I'm not sure he'll ever improve drastically enough to merit the push he's been getting as a wrestler.
That being said, Otunga generates some solid heat and can work the mic, which is pretty much all you want out of a manger in today's WWE.
A manager needs to be able to talk, and most of the WWE's stars who can work the mic are top stars who can also wrestle.
That's why I'd go with Otunga, who has already stepped into a manager-type role as John Laurinaitis' legal council. It's just that Laurinaitis isn't actually a wrestler.
Who Will Sheamus Lose the World Title To?
3 of 10Who do you think Sheamus will lose the WHC to?
I think Sheamus will beat Daniel Bryan at Extreme Rules on Sunday, ultimately ending that feud and transitioning the Celtic Warrior into a feud with Alberto Del Rio.
But given the way that ADR was largely a flop during both of his WWE title runs, I don't think Sheamus is going to lose the belt to him, either.
Sheamus is advertised to face Christian for the World Heavyweight Championship (in Triple Threat matches) over the summer, and that makes sense, given that he was feuding with Captain Charisma prior to his injury.
Still, I don't think Christian is going to beat him for the title, and ultimately, who Sheamus drops the belt to depends a lot on whether there's a WWE Draft or not.
Wade Barrett is likely headed for a huge push whenever he returns from injury, but it remains to be seen exactly where that push will take him.
So, you know who I think is going to end Sheamus' title reign? Cody Rhodes.
I know Rhodes is being booked like crap lately, but it's a coming booking strategy in the WWE to have an up-and-comer drop the mid-card title and then rise up to challenge for the World title shortly after.
Heck, just look at Dolph Ziggler last year or The Miz in 2010.
I think Rhodes will continue that tradition and end Sheamus' title reign this summer, possibly even at SummerSlam.
How Should Cena Be Booked After Extreme Rules?
4 of 10From @JamieLogue94: How should cena be booked following almost certain defeat on Sunday? Any chance he'll take time off?
Well, I wouldn't jump the gun and say that it's a foregone conclusion that John Cena will lose on Sunday.
While I think that Brock Lesnar will win, there's always that chance that Cena turns into "Super Cena" and wins or that the match ends with some kind of disputed finish where neither or both guys win.
That being said, I don't think this Lesnar/Cena feud is going to end at Extreme Rules because a feud of this magnitude generally lasts more than a month, and the WWE will likely want to milk this thing for all it's worth.
Yet, on the flip side, a report by WrestlingNewsWorld.com (subscribers only) does have this headline, "John Cena Injured; Slated For Time Off After Extreme Rules?," and indicates that Cena may be injured and taking time off after the pay-per-view.
Personally, I don't think Cena is going anywhere, well, because he's Cena. But that definitely appears to be a possibility.
Even so, I'm sticking to my guns and saying that the Cena/Lesnar feud continues at least for another month after Extreme Rules and--whether Cena takes time off or not--I think he'll transition into a fresh feud with someone he's never feuded with once the Lesnar feud is finished.
Maybe a Rhodes/Cena or Ziggler/Cena feud? If not, a run at CM Punk and the WWE Championship also seems likely.
Del Rio as a Face?
5 of 10Will ADR ever turn face?
Alberto Del Rio is a more natural heel, and I think that's something that most of us can see.
Simply judging by the way he performs as a heel, I wouldn't think he would ever turn face and be successful at it. But I've been wrong about this type of thing before.
I never thought Sheamus would turn baby face, but look at him now--he's probably the No. 4 face in the entire WWE.
If Sheamus can surprise me, then why can't Del Rio?
Although some superstars do go their entire career in one role (example: Ricky Steamboat as a face), it's rare, and most stars at least get a short run in their less natural role.
That should happen with Del Rio, especially if Rey Mysterio's latest suspension costs him and the WWE wants to push ADR as the top Hispanic baby face instead.
I'd actually be shocked if ADR didn't turn at some point in his career, but I think that's at least a year or two down the road.
When Will the WWE Draft Take Place?
6 of 10When do you think the WWE Draft will take place?
It might not happen at all.
It was once rumored to have taken place on this week's Raw, but that obviously didn't happen. Now, there is speculation that it will be on the three-hour Raw on June 11th.
But I'm not sure it's really necessary.
Though there are some guys who could certainly benefit from a brand switch, as we just saw with the "trade" of Alberto Del Rio to Smackdown, you don't need a draft to explain why a superstar changes brands.
To be honest, I think it's more likely that we see more "trades" or "signings" that allow maybe four or five top stars to relocate and freshen things up a bit. But having an actual 2012 WWE Draft seems less likely as the weeks go by.
I know that the brand split doesn't matter as much as it once did, but I still think that we need some short of shakeup on the brands.
It probably won't come in the form of a draft this year, though. Expect to see unannounced and unexplained "trades" and "signings" instead.
Who Are the WWE's Top Five Stars?
7 of 10Who do you are the 5 biggest stars in the WWE?
I'm not going to take into account part-timers (Triple H, Undertaker, etc.) or guys who aren't signed for the long-term (Chris Jericho, Brock Lesnar, The Rock, etc.).
With those exclusions made clear, I think that the top four are pretty indisputable: John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk and Sheamus, who also happen to be the company's top four baby faces.
After that, there's a pretty tough competition for the fifth spot.
But right now--and this would have been different two months ago and likely will be different two months from now--I'll go with Daniel Bryan.
Thanks to the incredible rise in popularity of the "Yes!" chants, Bryan has become the hottest current act in the wrestling business.
Whether this is a flash in the pan or not remains to be seen, but at this time, Bryan's performances on the mic and in the ring, as well as his amazing rise to the top of the WWE, warrant that No. 5 spot.
Ask me this question in July and my answer will probably be different, though.
Will Lord Tensai Get a Run with the World Title?
8 of 10From @MarlinTheMan: If he stays around for a year or two, or even before, could you see Lord Tensai getting a run with either the WWE or WH title?
No.
I think the WWE really wants Lord Tensai to get to that level and will probably push him into a No. 1 contender's spot at some point, but as I've said multiple times before, I think Tensai is flopping pretty badly right now.
The crowd couldn't care less about him, except to chant "Albert" or "A-Train" at him, and his in-ring work has actually looked pretty damn sloppy to me, too.
I'm just not sure that Lord Tensai's gimmick will ever translate here in the United States or get him over to the level that the WWE wants him at.
He may prove me wrong, but I think the WWE would make a catastrophic mistake if they put the title on him anytime soon.
The last thing you want is your World champion to be a heel that no one cares about, and at least right now, there seems to be a lot of indifference toward Lord Tensai.
Like I said, he'll get a chance to be at the top, but I don't think it'll go very well.
Undertaker's Greatest Match That Wasn't Against HBK or Triple H?
9 of 10apart from hbk and hhh, whats undertakers greatest match, so far?
The Undertaker has had a number of really good to great to phenomenal matches throughout his career, many of which have taken place at WrestleMania.
But since I'm assuming I can't pick The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels in the first-ever Hell in a Cell match (since you said "apart from HBK"), I'll go with the one that always stick out in my mind: Taker vs. Mankind inside Hell in a Cell at King of the Ring in 1998.
This, of course, is that crazy match where Mankind was thrown off and through the cell, and to this day, it is still one of the most insane matches I've ever seen.
That, for me, is probably the best Undertaker match I've ever seen, though he has a number to choose from.
greatest match that the undertaker has lost
I gotta go with this one.
The Undertaker and Kurt Angle absolutely tore the house down at No Way Out in 2006, and it's one of the few epic matches where I can remember Taker actually losing.
Worst WrestleMania in the Past 10 Years?
10 of 10Worst Wrestlemania in the past 10 years?
Honestly, I gotta go with WrestleMania 27.
For those that don't remember, here is the show's card:
"Edge defeated Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
Cody Rhodes defeated Rey Mysterio
Kane, Big Show, Santino Marella and Kofi Kingston defeated The Corre
Randy Orton defeated CM Punk
Michael Cole defeated Jerry Lawler
The Undertaker defeated Triple H in a No Holds Barred Match
John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki defeated Dolph Ziggler and LayCool
The Miz defeated John Cena to retain the WWE Championship
"
WrestleMania 27 was full of letdowns, with the only match that actually delivered being Undertaker and Triple H.
Edge/ADR, Rhodes/Mysterio and Orton/Punk were all solid to good matches, but I think just about everyone of those fell short of our expectations.
Meanwhile, that Team Big Show vs. The Corre match was a joke, as was Cole/Lawler and Snooki's "celebrity" match.
Plus, that Cena/Miz main event? One of the worst WrestleMania main events ever.
This show was really hurt by the lack of the Money in the Bank match and two so-so World title feuds. Its only saving grace was that great match between Triple H and Taker.
