UFC 147: Recapping the News from Presser with Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen
On Tuesday morning, Dana White, Chael Sonnen and the middleweight champion Anderson Silva were all in Brazil for a press conference about UFC 147.
But the biggest news from the press conference was something that had been rumored for about two weeks now: the necessity to move the fight from Brazil to Las Vegas due to scheduling conflicts.
However, there was more than just that news to come out of the presser, so let's take a look at all the stories from the UFC 147 press conference in Brazil.
Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II WILL Happen
1 of 6There had been rumors floating around on the internet that the fight between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen was in jeopardy.
It was being said that Silva would not fight Sonnen if it were not in Brazil, and if that were the case, Silva would be stripped of the title, and Bisping would fight Chael for the belt.
However, that was not the case, and this fight will happen. And we, as fans, are all happy about that.
It Will Be in Vegas, at UFC 148 on July 7
2 of 6The fight will happen, but it will not take place in Brazil or on the UFC 147 card.
The fight will take place on the UFC 148 card on July 7, in the main event spot. With that fight added to the card, UFC 148 becomes arguably the biggest card of all time—as pointed out by UFC Lead Blogger, Jeremy Botter.
The card will feature this fight, a bantamweight title fight between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber, a light heavyweight fight with Tito Ortiz against Forrest Griffin and two middleweight fights featuring Rich Franklin against Cung Le and Michael Bisping against Tim Boetsch.
The prelim card is also stacked as well. It's going to be a great card.
There Is No Venue for UFC 147/ The Ultimate Fighter Finale
3 of 6The Chael Sonnen-Anderson Silva fight was supposed to take place at UFC 147, but that will obviously not be happening.
Not only that, but there is not even a venue at the moment for the UFC 147 card, which will still take place on June 23.
It was being referred to as The Ultimate Fighter Finale by Dana White, but it will simply have the finalists from the Ultimate Fighter and will remain called "UFC 147."
Now that there is no main event for UFC 147, what could the fight lineup look like?
Fights for UFC 147
4 of 6Right now, fights on the UFC 147 card include a middleweight matchup of Ultimate Fighter coaches, Wanderlei Silva against Vitor Belfort, the finalists from The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, in both the middleweight and featherweight divisions, and Fabricio Werdum against Mike Russow.
Additionally, Dana White is looking to get Jose Aldo to headline, and he even said it's "probably going to happen."
But Aldo was supposed to headline UFC 149—what happens with that?
Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson Possible for UFC 149
5 of 6When asked about the possibility of Jon Jones and Dan Henderson headlining UFC 149, Dana White said "that would be awesome, if we could make that fight happen, that would be great."
He went on to say he'd have to see what happened, as Jones had just gone five rounds for the first time, and he'd have to see what happened.
Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua Both Going to Fight Soon
6 of 6Dana was asked by a member of the media about the possibility of Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida fighting on the UFC 147 card and possibly being coaches on The Ultimate Fighter.
Dana was unsure of any specifics, but he did say that Machida and Rua are "both going to fight in the states soon."
He did not say whether it would be against each other or not, just that they were both going to fight soon.
