WWE Extreme Rules 2012: 5 Reasons Why Brock Lesnar Will Crush John Cena
As was announced on Raw two weeks ago, at this month’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar will take on John Cena in his first official match for WWE in nearly eight years.
It is a highly anticipated bout, with the hope being that Lesnar’s first match back will buck the trend of poorly-performing B pay-per-views and help revive interest in the stagnant and floundering WWE product.
Can Brock, one of the best draws UFC ever had, replicate that success in pro wrestling?
Questions also surround the quality of Lesnar's in-ring performance: Will he suffer from ring rust? Will he and Cena mesh well as opponents?
But, another important question is: What will the outcome of the match be?
Indeed, more than anything else on the card—yes, even the two World Title bouts—the result of this bout will indicate a great deal about WWE plans and storylines in the upcoming year.
Well, for several reasons, we think Lesnar will crush John Cena and emerge triumphant from the event. In fact, it is incredibly hard to see any other outcome for the match.
So here is our list of reasons why you can expect the UFC star will handily defeat Luigi, oops, I mean, Cena at the show…
Lesnar Needs to Stay Strong
1 of 5Let's be frank: at some point, Brock Lesnar will lose a match. It's inevitable.
However, the idea that Brock will lose so quickly after just debuting on television is unthinkable and absurd. Having John Cena defeat Lesnar at Extreme Rules would be a disastrous booking decision and a huge waste of the money Vince McMahon reportedly spent on acquiring the services of the former UFC star.
Not only would such a result make the booking team look grossly incompetent (and they already get enough bad press as it is), it would label Lesnar, built up and promoted by WWE as a unstoppable monster, as a weak, embarrassing joke. It would do his credibility so much colossal damage that he would probably never recover.
While WWE Creative are far from perfect, it's difficult to see even them managing to screw up Lesnar's ascent to the top of WWE so royally.
Fans Want Lesnar to Win
2 of 5While Lesnar may ostensibly be a heel in WWE—he has been strongly linked with John Laurinaitis on-screen—there is no doubt that many fans are clamouring to cheer for him.
Indeed, over the last few weeks there have been heavy, persistent cheers for Brock, despite his status as a bad guy.
Hey, it doesn't matter if he disrespects them, which he has done on several occasions, they continue to worship the man. At this point, they're going to have to turn Lesnar face, for fan demand, if nothing else.
The main reason seems to be that, in this bland, watered-down cartoonish PG era, the wild, boorish Lesnar—and his legitimate MMA background—presents a refreshing and much-welcome dose of reality.
The same fans who despise Cena for his phoniness, love Lesnar, who is, in many respects, Cena's opposite.
With this in mind, it seems likely that, in a bid to keep their loyal fans happy, WWE will want to give Lesnar the victory in the main event of the pay-per-view.
Cena Doesn't Need the Win
3 of 5Interestingly, the once-fiercely protected Cena has been doing several clean and semi-clean jobs on TV and pay-per-view recently.
He, of course, lost to The Rock at the main event of WrestleMania 28 and came up short against new star Lord Tensai on last week's Raw (although the evil heel did have to cheat to gain the upper hand).
Rather than seeing this as a sign that John will have to defeat Lesnar at Extreme Rules to regain his credibility, we can possibly take this as an indicator that WWE brass have finally eased up on portraying Cena as invincible and are willing to have him lose sometimes.
After all, with his tremendous amount of star power and long tenure, he's not likely be out of the main-event picture any time soon.
With this in mind, Lesnar should emerge victorious from their match on April 29. At this point, he simply needs the win a lot more than the already-established Cena does.
John Laurinaitis Will Get Involved and Help Lesnar
4 of 5It wouldn't shock anyone if John Laurinaitis, who, per the storyline brought in Brock Lesnar to add legitimacy to the Raw roster, ran out during the main event and got involved in a bid to ensure his latest signee walked out a winner.
After all, it's not like it would be the first time the dastardly GM has gotten physically involved in matches (Laurinaitis has also gotten involved in the main events of Money in the Bank and Night of Champions over the past year).
The support of Laurinaitis can surely be considered a huge factor in Lesnar's favor as we head into the PPV.
The Cena/Lesnar Program Will Probably Continue Past Extreme Rules
5 of 5It seems likely that Lesnar and Cena will continue feuding past the pay-per-view. It is doubtful the (very) personal issues between them be be settled by just one match. Nor do WWE exactly have fresh new opponents lining up to face both of them.
In this case, a Brock victory at Extreme Rules, especially one by nefarious means, would serve a convenient reason to continue the angle, as well as giving Cena more motivation to succeed next time.
