UFC 145 Results: Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans by the Numbers
In last night's UFC 145 main event, Jon Jones put on yet another dominant performance against a former UFC champion when he defeated Rashad Evans.
Though Evans was the first man to go a full five rounds with Jones, he was simply outclassed by the champ.
Jones pretty much beat Evans in every aspect of the fight.
But let's take a look at the numbers to see just how much Jones dominated the fight.
Takedowns
1 of 5While both men have strong wrestling games, the majority of the fight was on the feet.
Evans attempted four takedowns, but like like every other opponent of Jones, he failed to land any.
Jones, on the other hand, went 1-for-2 on takedowns.
Three of Evans' four attempts came in the fourth round. Maybe it was a sign of desperation or maybe Evans was trying something different, but perhaps he should have tried to go for takedowns earlier in the fight.
Submissions
2 of 5Much like the wrestling game, there is little to say about submissions in this fight.
Neither man really had a submission attempt.
And with the exception of Jones pulling guard at the end of the fight, there was really little sign that either man was looking to end the fight by submission.
Leg Strikes and Kicking
3 of 5As far as the striking game goes, leg strikes may have been the closest thing in the fight.
Evans landed 16 significant strikes to the legs while Jones landed 18.
As far as leg kicks are concerned, both men went for kicks to the head through out the fight.
Evans landed a good head kick that hurt Jones, but he was unable to capitalize on it.
Jones was the more diverse kicker, landing front kicks, going for flying knees and attacking each area of the body with them.
Significant and Total Strikes
4 of 5Let's face it, Rashad Evans was Jon Jones' punching bag.
Jones landed 116 total strikes while Evans only landed 49.
Significant strikes was the same story, with Jones landing 105 to Evans' 45.
Jones had many weapons, but his most significant one was perhaps his close-range elbows.
Other Notes
5 of 5Last night, Jones was not only the more productive fighter, he was the more accurate one.
Jones landed a significantly higher percentage of strikes to the head, which really threw Evans off of his game.
This fight may not have ended in the knockout everyone was expecting, but it was a stand-up battle in favor of Jones.
