WWE Extreme Rules 2012: Ranking Every Champion Heading into the Event

Justin WatryJun 6, 2018

WWE has a great group of talents right now. Heading into the first event after WrestleMania, it is a very interesting selection of wrestlers wearing gold.

While some are defending their titles regularly, others are not. Right or wrong, that is just the way it is.

Which champions are doing the best job in the WWE today? Let's find out!

6. Beth Phoenix

Where is Beth Phoenix?

I think she is still the WWE Diva's champion. Currently, there is just nothing for her to do. She has defeated Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres and the Bella Twins far too many times to count.

Like many, I believe the company is waiting for Kharma to return.

5. Big Show

Big Show (rightfully) won the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestle Mania a few weeks ago. He defeated Cody Rhodes, and it looks like their feud may continue for a little bit longer.

Sadly, the title has not been defended much. It was a major topic leading up to 'Mania, but now that the event is over, not much has been made of Show being a champion again.

We will see where the gold goes after Extreme Rules.

4. Epico and Primo

3 of 6

Epico and Primo are the current tag team champions. The rarely defend the gold, yet always seem to lose in non-title efforts.

Their title run has been going on for a few months, but nothing has happened. No new teams are stepping up, and there isn't much of a "feud" going on.

Hopefully the division picks up in the next few weeks. The two are very talented wrestlers, but they can only face the same teams for so long.

Until then, the true star of the division continues to be Rosa Mendes. One of my three "it" girls, she steals the show every single time she walks down the ramp.

Keep up the nice work, Rosa!

3. Santino Marella

4 of 6

Santino Marella is the current United States Champion and comes in at third place here. He ranks very highly for one reason: The man defends his title on a regular basis.

Santino defeated David Otunga just last week on Raw. It was an entertaining match, and both men were used perfectly. I hope their little "feud" continues.

A title change may be coming any day now, but at least the title is on television each week.

2. Sheamus

5 of 6

As I wrote about a week before WrestleMania, Sheamus should have defeated Daniel Bryan in less than a minute for the World Title.

On April 1st, that exact scenario took place. While some were confused, I was not. The match (rightfully) saw a title change, and I suspect all the actual paying customers were satisfied.

Moving forward, I feel Sheamus is in for a lengthy title run.

Like I wrote in January, it makes no sense for this man to lose a single match for a long, long time. He needs a dominant few months, and keeping the gold will do such a thing.

1. CM Punk

6 of 6

Just like Sheamus, I do not see this man losing his title for a long, long time. CM Punk is the current WWE Champion, and I do not see that changing anytime soon.

When he beat Alberto Del Rio for the belt at Survivor Series last November, it was a nice change. Months later, he is still running with top title on Raw.

Moving forward, it is going to be interesting to see who he feuds with next. After he likely defeats Chris Jericho next weekend, it will be time for somebody else to step up!
