Real Madrid: 5 Things We Learned in El Clasico Win over Barcelona
After a four-year wait, Real Madrid have finally won at Camp Nou.
Two unspectacular goals from Khedira and Ronaldo ensured Real Madrid stay on course to their first La Liga title under Mourinho.
Barcelona currently sit seven points behind Los Blancos in La Liga standings, and with only four more games to be played, the title is Real Madrid's to lose.
Here are the five things we learned in this epic El Clasico win.
Real Madrid Break All-Time Scoring Record
1 of 6Sami Khedira's close range strike rewrote the history books.
The current Real Madrid squad have become the all-time top goal scoring team in a single La Liga season.
Los Blancos broke the record they previously held since 1989/90 season by scoring 108 times in the current league campaign.
Even more astounding is the fact that there are still four games until the end of the current La Liga campaign—that means Los Blancos can easily surpass the 120-goals mark.
Barcelona Needs More Depth in Defense
2 of 6Without their arguably best defender in this season, the Barcelona defense looked agitated and nervous throughout the match.
There's no better situation which showed Barca's insecurity in defense than the goal scored by Khedira.
After the ball was headed at the far post, Puyol and Valdes stood numb, allowing the German to push the ball into the net.
With no real back-up for Pique, Barcelona need another world-class defender more than they need Neymar.
Cristian Tello Shouldn't Have Started the Match
3 of 6Leaving out Pique, perhaps the greatest defender in Europe, was bad enough, but starting an inexperienced Tello only discredits Guardiola's team selection even more.
This begs a question—Did Guardiola willingly give up on La Liga in order to fully concentrate on Champions League semifinals?
Whatever the reason, Real Madrid can boast in their win which puts them out of Barca's reach.
The inexperienced striker too often held the ball for too long, and his finishing can only be called poor.
The youngster spurred chance after chance before being rightly substituted nine minutes from time.
Real Madrid Will Win La Liga
4 of 6After seeing their lead cut from 10 to four points, Real Madrid players must have felt under pressure in the last couple of games.
However, none of that pressure was to be seen in this El Clasico, as Los Blancos comfortably extended their lead over Barcelona.
A seven point gap will always be hard to break, and with only four more games to play, it seems almost impossible.
Real Madrid have won the toughest fixture in the world and will feel comfortable retaining their lead over their rivals.
Jose Mourinho can start bragging now.
A New Era Has Begun in Real Madrid
5 of 6This El Clasico match epitomised the situation in La Liga and Madrid.
Each and every Los Blancos player ran his socks off defending the lead, which eventually paid off, while Barca's stars were left frustrated, completely clueless and unable to beat their opposition.
Beating Barca at Camp Nou has much more symbolical meaning than winning La Liga for most of the fans.
Barcelona's four-year dominance over Real Madrid is finally wearing off.
Mourinho's era has begun, and hopefully it will last for years to come.
Conclusion
6 of 6Of course, the La Liga trophy is still not mathematically won, but nobody really expects Real Madrid to lose three of their last four games.
What do you think? Who were the star performers in this epic Real Madrid win? Did Los Blancos deserve to win El Clasico and close in on the league title?
