WWE Raw Recap: The Top 5 Moments of the Night

Kaleb KelchnerJun 7, 2018

The WWE made the trip across the pond for the Raw SuperShow in London last night, and the hyped up British crowd gave Miami a run for their money in regards to fan participation.

Raw was memorable, featuring entertaining moments from start to finish. Bleacher Report has rounded up the top five moments of the night, and ranking them was no easy task considering how good each entry was.

CM Punk defended his WWE Championship against Mark Henry in a no disqualification, no count-out match that the crowd embraced with no hesitation.

In the mic-work department, Daniel Bryan gave his LeBell Lock a new name, and Brock Lesnar cut a UFC-style promo on John Cena.

To close the show, John Cena took on a mystery opponent, Lord Tensai.

All around, WWE managed to avoid having a dull overseas show, and that's a victory in itself.

Check out which moments made our top five, and sound off in the comment section with your top moments of the night!

Lord Tensai Beats John Cena (with Some Help)

1 of 5

Lord Tensai took a huge step up in competition when he was brought in by John Laurinaitis as John Cena's mystery opponent in the main event of Raw.

The match itself was nothing to write home about, as it was your typical Extreme Rules affair. Tensai enlisted the aid of his manager Sakamoto and David Otunga to get the job done in the end, but all is fair in love, war and Extreme Rules.

Tensai finished off Cena with his green mist and powerbomb, and Cena sold the mist to the eyes afterwards well.

Although this moment doesn't seem all that thrilling, you have to take into consideration how easily WWE Creative could have given John Cena a win he didn't need here. That universal sigh of relief helps this match break into the top five.

The odds are stacked so heavily against Cena that as we approach Extreme Rules, he's going to have to have a couple of tricks up his sleeve (wrist band?) if he intends to beat Brock Lesnar on April 29.

Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston Put on a Show

2 of 5

No gimmicks needed, this match was arguably the best of the night.

Daniel Bryan showed why he should never be in an 18-second world title match again, and Kofi Kingston hasn't been in a bad singles match in a long time.

It helps that the crowd was absolutely eating up Daniel Bryan in the ring.

The former World Heavyweight Champion forced Kofi to tap with the LeBell Lock, but it's not called the LeBell Lock anymore. More on that in the next slide.

Daniel Bryan Renames the LeBell Lock in a Great Promo

3 of 5

Prior to their match, Daniel Bryan caught Kofi Kingston trying to cheer up AJ. Daniel told Kofi that just because he obviously doesn't want to be with AJ doesn't mean that it's open season on her.

Kofi tried to defuse the situation, but Daniel Bryan wasn't having any of it. The former World Heavyweight Champion had an epiphany in regards to the LeBell Lock. He pondered why he even called it the LeBell lock.

"Who did he ever beat?"

He'd rename his finisher the "Yes Lock," because when the referee asks if you want to submit, all you'll be saying is "yes."

He then led the crowd in a "Yes" chant, and it felt like he was trying to prove a point not just to Kofi, but also to the WWE brass.

WWE Draws on Brock Lesnar's MMA History for Promo Inspiration

4 of 5

Brock Lesnar didn't make the trip to England for Raw, but he did take part in a taped promo that was actually quite good.

Also, WWE is wise to use taped promos for Lesnar right now. He's never been the best talker, but keeping most of his stuff taped so he can be directed is just smart.

What I found interesting is that WWE obviously drew on UFC's style of pre-fight promos, but added a little WWE flavor to it. It worked great.

Even more interesting is WWE's use of the word "legitimacy" and how they paired Lesnar's MMA training with "Extreme Rules."

Are they hinting at a shooty kind of match? Doubtful, but they're certainly trying to make you curious how Lesnar's legit fighting experience may play into the match. That's reflected by John Cena's promo where he said he was coming to fight.

You'll notice that John Cena's promo didn't make our top five.

CM Punk Is Embraced by England, Finally Defeats Mark Henry

5 of 5

After two weeks of losing to Mark Henry, CM Punk finally got even in their no disqualification, no count-out match.

The crowd mimicked Miami's enthusiasm (the Raw crowd, certainly not WrestleMania), and it made the match even sweeter.

From Punk's barricade running bulldog, to the match-ending elbow drop with a steel chair, the match was simply fun.

Oh, WWE Championship was on the line. More title defenses on television, please.
