Notre Dame, Navy to Kick off CBS College Football Coverage from Ireland
Notre Dame and Navy are going to be playing a game very early on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Unless you live in Dublin, Ireland. Then, the Fighting Irish and the Midshipmen will be playing at a reasonable hour.
According to CBSSports.com, it has been announced that CBS will be kicking off its 2012 college football television schedule with the showdown between Notre Dame and Navy on Sept. 1. The game will be played at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will be calling the action from the booth.
Aviva Stadium is a grass stadium that seats just short of 52,000 spectators. It's normally reserved for rugby and soccer.
This is not the first time the Irish and the Midshipmen will have played a game in Ireland. They played a game at Croke Park back in 1996, which Notre Dame won by the final of 54-27.
This also won't be the first time a college-football game has been played at Lansdowne Road. The old Lansdowne Road stadium was demolished several years ago to make way for Aviva Stadium, but it hosted two college-football games back in the late 1980s. The second game in 1989 between Pitt and Rutgers drew over 45,000 fans.
This year, Notre Dame will look to make a statement in its opener against Navy. Brian Kelly is going to have a good team in 2012, and he'll be looking to lead the Irish to their first BCS bowl since the 2007 Sugar Bowl.
The Irish and the Midshipmen will kick off at 2:00 p.m. local time, which is 9:00 a.m. ET in the states.
