WWE Extreme Rules 2012: Matches That Should Be Added to Card for PPV

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Only two matches have been announced for Extreme Rules with less than two weeks until the WWE's next pay-per-view. Brock Lesnar will battle John Cena in his return match and Daniel Bryan will get his rematch against Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Let's take a look at three more matches that should be added to the card sometime over the next few shows. It's important for Extreme Rules to have a strong showing to maintain the momentum the WWE built up at WrestleMania.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

Whenever it seems like the feud between Punk and Jericho has lost a little steam, they take it to another level. Bringing Punk's straight-edge lifestyle into the mix was a brilliant idea and adds to the realism aspect fans crave.

Since returning to the company, Jericho's PPV results have included being eliminated by Sheamus in the Royal Rumble, getting knocked out at Elimination Chamber and tapping out at WrestleMania. He wouldn't have returned if losing big matches was going to become his main task.

Sooner or later Jericho will finally get the better of Punk. Adding this match to the card with the stipulation that the title changes hands regardless of how it happens would be the perfect opportunity to have a title change.

Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes

Expectations were pretty low when these two started to feud, but they've actually turned it into a pretty entertaining battle. After Rhodes made a mockery of Big Show last month, the seven-foot monster has flipped the script since winning the Intercontinental title.

Rhodes is one of the WWE's most talented young stars and throwing him into a storyline with an established veteran should help him moving forward. It also helps him remain relevant until a main-event spot becomes available.

Since it's Extreme Rules, it only makes sense to let both guys vent their frustrations with a no-disqualification match for the title.

Santino vs. Dolph Ziggler

After Ziggler dropped the United States title to Zack Ryder, it appeared he was heading for an extended stay in the main-event picture. Instead, he was never treated like a serious threat and seems destined to fade back toward a midcard feud.

The crowd reaction for Santino remains the same with or without a title, so there's really no reason for him to hold it much longer. Setting up a title match with Ziggler coming out on top would be a perfect way to start the show.

It would also allow him to start another feud with Ryder. The pair has been going back and forth on Ryder's YouTube show lately, similar to when the “Long Island Iced Z” took the title away the first time. They work well together, making for a good storyline.
