Greg Biffle Tops in Texas Snoozer, Stenhouse Jr. Strong and Kahne Rock Solid
The Samsung Mobile 500 was fast, but hardly furious, with a record pace that saw Greg Biffle take charge over Jimmie Johnson to capture the win. Hendrick Motorsports flexed their muscle, but they were unable to garner their 200th collective win.
There were just two caution periods for 10 yellow-flag laps and seven drivers executed 18 lead changes in a race that lacked drama.
Jeff Gordon was impressive coming through the field from his 34th-place start to finish fourth and maintain a top-five position throughout the race.
Hendrick Motorsports had all four teammates in the top 10 with Johnson second, Kasey Kahne seventh and Dale Earnhardt Jr. 10th.
Tony Stewart has won two races on intermediate tracks this season, but he couldn't get a handle on his backup car that started 29th and he ultimately finished 24th.
The Cup champion stated, "We started off really loose and then we sort of went the other way, and I needed to be freed up. We chased it all night. We'll go back to the shop, tear it apart and see what the deal is."
After a winless streak of 49 races, Biffle secured his 17th Cup win and fired the traditional six-shooters in Victory Lane.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the class of the field in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 with his Roush Fenway Racing No. 6 Mustang. It was his second NASCAR Nationwide win this year.
Kasey Kahne finished seventh in the Cup race, third in the Nationwide race and then headed to North Carolina where he scored an NCWTS victory at the historic Rockingham track.
Driving the No. 4 truck, Kahne started from the rear of the field because Brad Sweet had qualified the truck in fifth position. Rules state a driver change means you start in the back of the field.
Kahne was perhaps the story of the weekend as he proved that adversity has made him stronger, and he is a threat behind the wheel in the three most prestigious NASCAR national series.
Biffle was a man on a mission when he powered around Johnson on lap 304 of 334 and won by a margin of 3.235 seconds. He remains atop the point standings.
